About
Cadell Street Fish & Chips has built a well-regarded reputation in Goolwa, drawing both locals and visitors who make a point of stopping in whenever they’re passing through. With well over 900 reviews and a solid four-plus star standing, it’s clearly doing something right for a small-town fish and chip shop on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The chips are the talking point here. Hand-cut and fried to a golden crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy through the middle, they’re the kind of chips that prompt genuine superlatives from people who’ve eaten fish and chips their whole lives. The fish matches up well, arriving fresh, lightly battered and sweet-fleshed. Beyond the classics, the Cowboy Burger has developed a loyal following and is worth ordering if you’re after something a bit different.
Service is counter-style and friendly, with a generally quick turnaround despite the crowds the place regularly attracts. Tourist and group traffic means a short wait is common during busy periods, so phoning ahead for larger orders is a sensible move. Outdoor seating makes it a good fit for families, and there’s a kids’ menu alongside wheelchair-accessible entry and free parking nearby. The venue accepts card and mobile payments for those who don’t carry cash.
Dine in or take your order down to enjoy along the Murray. Either way, it’s a straightforward fish and chip shop doing the simple things exceptionally well. Check opening hours before you head in, particularly outside of peak season.

Well after all the good reviews I read I’m VERY disappointed
Photos speak for themselves over $56 “worth” of food wasted flake waterlogged tatse bad- potato cakes were paperthin with no batter left on and well over cooked.
Dim sims so far cooked they were exploding chips too far cooked and taste like they had been cooked twice , we waited 40 minutes longer than the 20 minute wait- so an hour for a phone order!
Girl cooking with red hair swearing and yelling etc with a room full of customers – she would be rude and abrupt when customers would ask how much loner for their order ?
Won’t be going back want a refund don’t answer the phone!
The best fish and chips I’ve had in a long, long time. Perfect chips – large, very crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside. Large portion of fish, fresh and sweet, light crispy batter. Very quick and friendly service.
We stopped in there yesterday (Sunday) for a ‘picnic’ type lunch to have by the Murray. Their chips were the BEST I think I have ever had, and that sentiment was shared by all. They were golden and crisp on the outside and white and fluffy on the inside. Salted to perfection! The chicken nuggets were cooked to a very fussy child’s taste, and the hot dogs were amazing! We are considering another drive to Goolwa just to have some more chips! Well done!
Me and the Mrs have been coming here for awhile and the food is amazing each time we come. This is a true small town fish n chip shop that just does it all well.
Cowboy burger 🤠 is a must try!
Came in to this establishment for a delightful spot of chips and fish. The ladies and I were tickled pink by the scrumptious chips which I am led to believe were in fact hand cut by the hunk a spunk head chef who calls himself the sous chef at this fine dining restaurant. We were absolutely astounded when we discovered the cost of this meal was but 67 dollars and included a thirst quenching beverage for zero cost! The establishment, to our utmost anticipation, included some sugary delights in their frozen receptacle. The girls and I have now popped back to our humble waterfront mansion for a spot of pride and prejudice, following our match of tennis, while we also indulge our lovely Maxibons!
Appendix 1: our GENEROUS serving of chips! Fed all four (all ladies on ozempic) with leftovers!!
Appendix 2: some (what we presume) is shark!!!!! YUMMO!
Appendix 3: the aftermath!
Sorry guys, not up to scratch. Paid $14 for crumbed fish and it was TINY, mostly crumbs, I’d be surprised if the fish incased in the crumbling was over 100 g.
Chips are good, that part is great.
Salads are oddly priced at $6 for a small or $7 for a salad that is twice the size of the small – makes absolutely zero sense and the salads are not that great to begin with.
Got a chicken parmi pack with salad, chips, worst lunch we have ever had.. had to look hard to see the chicken as the coating was thicker… It was over cooked and dry.. to much sauce on-top… The chip are nice and salad ok …. When the girl closed the lid it stuck to cheese .. wasted $26…We had our little dog with us, so we couldn’t get a pub counter meal… Now we are both feeling yuk from the chicken Parmi… 2/2/26..
Fish and chips were fresh and very tasty. Also bought two dim sims. 👍Chips were huge! Great service. Friendly, very polite. Not long to wait. Seats available. Shop very clean. Quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend. Very good value. Will visit again when in town. Thank you. 😊
