About
The Original Fish Shop has been serving Victor Harbor since 1920, making it one of the longest-running fish and chip shops in South Australia. With over a century of operation behind it, the shop has built a loyal following among locals and visitors alike, and decent reviews across a large number of ratings reflect a kitchen that consistently delivers on the basics.
The menu is built around fresh fish cooked to order, with butterfish and flake among the more popular choices. Potato cakes and dim sims round out the classic selections, and the chips are known for generous serves with a satisfying crunch. Homemade burgers and yiros extend the menu for those after something different, and the shop also caters to plant-based diners. Golden North ice cream is available for a sweet finish, a nod to South Australian tradition.
Dine-in seating is available with an outdoor option as well, and the layout is wheelchair accessible with free parking nearby. Service is prompt and friendly at the counter, though a short wait can be expected during busy periods, particularly on weekend afternoons closer to closing time. The shop is family friendly and open for both lunch and dinner across the week, with continuous trading on Saturdays and Sundays.
For anyone exploring Victor Harbor and looking for a reliable fish and chips experience with a bit of history attached, this is a straightforward choice. Check hours below before visiting, as weekday trading includes a break between lunch and dinner service.

A charge for everything.
We came as a family of 6 and was disappointed to be told that they didn’t have any packs available it seemed everything was catered for the individual.
Anyway the batter on the fish was quite good and the gravy on the chicken was incredibly flavoursome.
Just annoyed that there was a charge for cutlery and a lemon wedge despite the fact we ate in.
Hubby & I had a delicious lunch at the Original Fish Shop today. We were the only customers, which meant it didn’t take long to get our food. The young man who served us was very friendly and suggested the butterfish, which was so good. No complaints about anything. Great service, great food
Well I have visited this restaurant a number of times over the last five years, It compares to one of my favourite fish shops and that is the one at Pt Vincent on the water front, very nicely cook Butter fish and chips, friendly helpful staff, parking on main street or at the park at the end of the street, well worth a visit when next in Victor Harbor !
Had lunch here on a Sunday and it was fairly busy but didn’t take long at all probably 10-15 minutes to get our lunch. The flathead and flake was delicious as were the chips, dimmys and potatoe cakes. We usually go to the other fish & chip shop in town but not anymore.
We visited this fish and chips shop in Victor Harbour for lunch. The fish and chips were nice and they also had a plant based burger. The chips were a big serving and tasted good.
We had fish, chips (of course) and onion rings. The fish was great really fresh and good flavour. The onion rings and the chips were alright too. But what was really impressed was the massive amount of chips we got for 4 people, we couldn’t eat more than 2/3 of them.
Great service, and friendly staff. Thank you so much.
Called up 20 minutes before closing time and with a decent size order. They were more than happy to cater. Having the fish and chips wrapped in paper brought bsck plenty of memories. How it should always be done. The chips were absolutely great. Butterfish also really nice. Highly reccomend this place is you’re visiting in victor harbour. Keep up the good work guys. Photos i post don’t do it justice
This ship deserves a better rating! We tried all the fish and they were fresh and well prepared. Crispy light batter and great chips. Highly recommended 👌
