About
Flippers Cooked Seafood sits at Constitution Dock, one of Hobart’s most distinctive waterfront locations, and it draws a steady crowd of locals and visitors alike. The setup is takeaway-focused, with no on-site seating, so orders are collected and enjoyed wherever suits. Delivery and kerbside pickup are also available, making it a flexible option for families looking for a quick, satisfying meal.
The menu leans into fresh, well-cooked seafood, and crumbed whiting is a clear favourite among regulars. Potato cakes feature too, and the deep-fried seafood packages are a popular choice for those wanting a generous spread. Trevalla appears on the menu alongside whiting, giving a decent range of fish options beyond the usual. The batter and crumb work is a talking point, with the whiting in particular drawing praise for its texture and flavour.
Despite being one of Hobart’s busier fish and chip spots, the team moves through queues efficiently, even on busy Saturday evenings. The kids’ menu makes it a practical stop for families exploring the Hobart waterfront. Payment by card and mobile is accepted, and accessible parking is available nearby.
Phone ahead during the dinner rush if you’re planning a larger order.

Top quality seafood can be found at Constitution Dock. Plenty of options available with a number of vendors there. I chose Flippers and grabbed their package of Deep Fried seafood goodness. Cooked to perfection and on a crisp and chilly afternoon it topped a perfect afternoon.
We bought the fish n chip of the day as recommended on a piece of paper stuck at the order counter. 18 bucks and plus 2.5 for a little box of tartar sauce.
Ok quality, not the best though with a few little bones we gotta be careful of.
Fast service, large serving of fish and chips. The chips are cooked nicely and as is the fish although it is a bit oily. Nice tartare sauce at an extra cost
Best crumbed whiting and potato cakes!
The tide was out and a real unique experience ordering and picking up our meals.
Awesome fish n chip joint!
We finally got a chance to try out Flippers on our last in Hobart for dinner. We got there around 6pm on a Saturday night.
A little bit of a line up but they are super efficient at getting through the orders. It came up in about 10 minutes.
We ordered the Family Meal Deal for $48. 2 battered flake, 4 calamari rings, 4 potato cakes and large chips.
All super fresh and cooked extremely well.
There is the opportunity to shake sea or chicken salt and apply vinegar at the seperate pick up window.
You may have to duck down to order and pick up depending on the tide height – all part of the experience.
There are plenty of seating options nearby to enjoy the deep fried bounty.
We ate 2 times here (01/02 and 02/02)
First time:
– Trevalla + Chips – crumbed: 8.5/10 (too dry for my liking)
– Whitting + Chips – crumbed: 10/10 (hoorayyy ~~, juicy, yummy, sweet, just the right amount of crunch, i used chicken salt)
Second time:
– Whitting + Chips – crumbed: 8.5/10 (idk why but the fish tasted less yummy than the first time, maybe because we had ice cream beforehand ☹️)
Service: 10/10 (we like the speaker 🤣🤣🤣🤣)
We loved our lunch here fish, prawns and calamari … so fresh it could have jumped out of the ocean and onto our plates. Great value must visit if in Hobart!
Love their battered trevalla, always freshly made, crunchy outside and juicy inside. Recommend to order the tartar sauce as well, goes very well with the fish. It is a take away only business with some benches available for sitting around that area.
