About
Mures Lower Deck is one of Hobart’s most visited fish and chip spots, sitting at the heart of the city’s waterfront precinct and drawing a steady crowd of locals, families, and tourists alike. Open seven days from breakfast through to dinner, the venue operates across multiple spaces, with a large dining area, outdoor seating, and a bar serving beer, wine, cocktails, and coffee. The scale of the place means it can absorb a crowd, though peak dinner hours can mean a wait at the counter.
The fish and chips here are a highlight, with regulars noting the crispy, golden batter and fresh, flaky fish. The menu extends well beyond a standard chippie, featuring Tasmanian Pacific oysters shucked fresh, scallops, squid, prawns, pizza, and a seafood chowder that gets strong mentions from those who’ve tried it. A notable point of difference is that fish is sourced from the venue’s own boat, lending the menu a direct-from-the-water freshness. For dessert, an ice cream selection running to more than 36 flavours is a popular way to finish.
Halal options and a vegetarian selection are available, and the venue is fully wheelchair accessible with kids’ menus and high chairs on hand, making it a practical choice for families. Solo diners are welcome too, and the staff have a reputation for making visitors feel at ease, often sharing local tips about markets and events around Hobart.
The venue accepts reservations, which is worth keeping in mind for dinner. Phone ahead during busy periods, and see opening hours below.

Great spot in Hobart!
Lovely staff and excellent service, honestly couldn’t fault them. The fish and chips were okay, not the best I’ve had but still enjoyable. Prices are a bit higher compared to other local shops, but the overall experience and location made the visit worthwhile.
They provided various seafood dishes including sushi, fish and chips, gilled seafood and ice cream etc. The dining area was huge. The food quality was fresh and affordable. Highly recommended the fish chowder! 😍
Crowded at 5:30pm. Have to wait quite some time for food to be served after ordering at the counter. Crew are working diligently to serve food and to clean tables to cope with the crowd. Drinks can be ordered at beverage counter and be served right away. Quality of seafood is fresh. Portion is big.
Mures Lower Deck absolutely delivered! Everything we tried was amazing from start to finish. The Fish & Chips were perfectly cooked — crispy, golden batter on the outside with fresh, flaky fish inside, and the chips were hot and well-seasoned. The Mures Fish Cake was full of flavor, beautifully textured, and tasted fresh and comforting at the same time.
For dessert, the Passion Fruit Ice Cream was a standout — refreshing, tangy, and not overly sweet, making it the perfect palate cleanser. The Mures Waffles were warm, fluffy, and indulgent, a great way to end the meal.
Overall, fantastic food, great quality, and a really enjoyable experience. Highly recommend! 🌟
This is a great place for a quick bite to eat. Food was good, great amount of food for what you get and super quick. Staff were so welcoming and friendly. Awesome views as well.
We had a lovely late lunch here. We were made to feel bery welcome, asking about our flight and telling us about the local wine featival and Salamance Markets. The food was delicious. We had the standard seafood platter which was plenty for two
two.
Mueller’s Lower Deck is in a terrific spot right on the main bay in Hobart, with both indoor and outdoor seating that lets you make the most of the waterfront atmosphere. It’s an easy place to settle in, especially on a clear day when the harbour is looking its best.
The food was very good — fresh, well presented and enjoyable. It wasn’t the best seafood we’ve ever had, but it was certainly very nice and we left satisfied. The menu is solid and suits the location.
One small frustration was that the QR code system for ordering drinks wasn’t working. To be fair, staff acknowledged it was an issue with their system, so it wasn’t just us. It didn’t ruin the experience, but it did slow things down slightly.
It would also be great to see an option to have the fish pan-fried rather than only battered or crumbed. A lighter preparation choice would add a bit more flexibility to the menu.
Overall, a very pleasant waterfront dining experience in a prime Hobart location. We’d happily return.
I got takeaway seafood and Fish&Chips a couple times while we were in Hobart. Great ranges of fish, seafoods, and side options. Easy and straightforward eatery with friendly service!
