About
Wivenhoe Milk and Food Bar is a well-regarded takeaway spot in Wivenhoe, Tasmania, and one of the more unusual options in the area for one simple reason: it opens at 3:30 in the morning. For early risers, shift workers, or anyone passing through before dawn, that alone makes it a notable stop along the northwest coast.
The menu covers a solid spread of quick bites, including fish and chips, rolls, salads, and coffee. The signature BBQ egg and bacon roll, especially with a hashbrown added, has earned genuine praise from regulars. The shop also stocks Pyengana milk, a nod to Tasmanian provenance that locals appreciate. Portions can lean salty, so ask the staff to go easy if that matters to you, though results can vary.
Service is generally friendly and efficient, and the space is kept clean. Food quality does get mixed reactions, with some finding meals fresh and satisfying while others note the fish can disappoint. Prices divide opinion too, with some finding them reasonable and others considering them a little steep for the area.
Takeaway is available, and the venue is noted as family friendly. Free street parking makes it easy to duck in without fuss. A solid choice for anyone in the Wivenhoe area after an early start or a quick, no-fuss meal. Check opening hours before heading in for an afternoon visit.

Generally the food is really good and the staff are excellent. My only complaint is they only know one salt level; heaps lol. Even when you ask for just a tiny amount it’s still drowned. Other than that, it’s a great place for take out. Definitely one of the better ones in the Burnie area.
Really disappointing. I’ve given this shop more than one chance. Go there in the afternoon and its ran by children. Not an actual adult in sight, which is scary. Ask them to do anything at all for you other than shovel you the dry old food from their Bain-Marie and they’ll roll their eyes and sigh, literally stomping about the place while you wait. This review is their fault and could’ve been avoided. They’re always short with me, only one adult lady has ever been anything close to friendly. If the owners could see the foul attitude these kids give off there’s not way they’d let it go. I’m taking my business elsewhere unfortunately.
VERY DISAPPOINTED, got myself and my daughter some lucnh today from this place. I’m very shocked to taste the food just to find out that, all of it was cold or stale and the chicken was undercooked. Plus the sausage in batter was a gross brown colour. 1/10 do not recommend, staff are great though!
Paid 6,50 for a chicken burger that’s a quarter of the bun and it’s been sitting there for the whole day thats how dry it is
BBQ egg and bacon roll, add a hashbrown = best in Burnie!! Also stock Pyengana milk!!
During my run from Penguin to Burnie, I decided to stop at Wivenhoe Milk and Food Bar for a quick snack after completing 22km. I was delighted by the excellent and professional service provided by Juan, the lovely lady who served me.
Juan was incredibly welcoming and efficient, making sure I had everything I needed. Her friendly demeanor and attention to detail made my quick stop very enjoyable. The snack was exactly what I needed to refuel for the remainder of my run, and Juan’s service added a positive touch to my day.
Wivenhoe Milk and Food Bar is definitely a place I’ll be stopping by again, thanks to the fantastic service from Juan. Highly recommended for anyone in the area!
Fantastic that it’s open at 3.30 in the morning, food prices are cheap, yet to try any food, have only bought drinks early on the way to the gym
Total spent $18.50 & Probably the biggest rip off takeaway I have been in to date, my mate bought his lunch next door at the iga & now I know why cos he got a better deal. I bought here 1 drink large mother can original, 2 potato cakes, 1 garlic & cheese potato cake & 1 large piece of chicken. Most of the bain-maree options looked like they had been in there a little too long & I have to say the chicken was the worst I have had & small for $4 a piece. Wouldn’t recommend anything from here. I should of waited & got something at Somerset instead.
