About
Condon Street Takeaway has built a solid reputation as one of Bendigo’s well-regarded fish and chip shops, pulling in regulars from across the suburb and beyond. The shop runs a focused menu built around freshly fried fish, with flake as the clear star. Thick, fluffy batter and chips cooked in fresh oil are recurring themes in what locals say about the place, and the potato cakes draw their fair share of praise too.
Beyond the classics, the menu reaches a little further than most. King George Whiting, Blue Grenadier, and Butterfish sit alongside the flake, giving customers a genuine choice of fish. Grilled scallops round out the seafood side of things, and the shop also serves hamburgers and souvlaki, making it a handy stop for a mixed group with different appetites. Friendly staff and generous value for money add to the appeal.
The setup is takeaway only, which keeps things moving efficiently. Ordering online is an option, card and mobile payments are accepted, and both the car park and entrance are wheelchair accessible. It’s a family-friendly spot with something for most tastes, and it draws a steady crowd from the local university community as well as nearby residents.
Condon Street Takeaway is open from mid-morning through to the evening, seven days a week. Phone ahead or order online during the dinner rush to avoid a wait.

The service was quick and good value for money. Chip serving was large more than enough for two people for $3.50. Food was nice enough, nothing special but cheap and filling if you want an easy dinner and what you would expect from a takeaway.
Perhaps one of the best fish & chips I’ve had for a long time. Chips were cooked to perfection, fresh oil was obvious, fish (flake) was nice & thick & fluffy, potato cakes were simply delicious. What more could you want from a feed of fish & chips? Their online ordering system is very easy to use & navigate. To top it off, their waiting time was quite reasonable considering there were at least a dozen people waiting before me- an indication of their popularity. Highly recommended.
This has been our local fish n chip go to for the last 5 years, really easy to order online, awesome schnitzel burgers, awesome souvlaki’s and cracking fish n chips. We recently moved towns and really sad to have to find another. Thankyou for the great service and food 👌
This shop is a Fish & Chip takeaway also serving hamburgers and other seafood delights. I was greated on arrival my order taken and within a short time order was ready. The order prepared as requested including the grilled fish wrapped separately which was great if you know what happens when it’s thrown in with the mix. The taste test passed with flying colours. Crispy and you can tell oil is kept fresh by taste YUM.
Friendly staff. Great variety. Cooked well. Great flavours. Well priced. Will definitely be back if we are in the area again.
We ordered two butter fish two potato cakes and two chicken nuggets
either the fish was dry before it was battered or it was over cooked same goes for the potato cakes and the batter was like trying to eat the sole off of an old boot as for the chicken nuggets they were from coles or woolworths in the shape of those Dino nuggets that you feed your kids and they were that cremated badly that they were inedible what a joke this shop is their food is absolute CRAP never again wasted $21 on crap food that was inedible
Lovely, friendly people. Best chips I’ve had. Crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside. Whiting had a light, crunchy batter and was moist inside. Scallops were moist and batter was delicious. My new favourite takeaway. You won’t be disappointed.
I ordered 1x Snapper & 2x Potato Cakes.
So, first off the service was fast and they were nice.
I recieved an extra potato cake, thank you. The batter is nice and crispy.
I’ve only given 3 stars because I recieved a piece of whiting, (3 actually.)
Instantly I recognise that this fillet is not a Snapper, as requested. I called to let them know and I was told, no this is not whiting, this is snapper, ok, just small fillets of snapper joined together, ok? bye.
Alright, you say that, but not only am I a chef by trade but fishing is my hobby. I’ve caught and filleted hundreds of Snapper and worked with whiting, so I can confidently say, I know the difference.
Pics below for proof of what I’m claiming.
Regardless of it being the wrong product, it was still tasty. I was just calling to let them know I received the wrong product.
