About
McIvor Road Fish and Chips is a casual diner and takeaway shop on McIvor Road in Bendigo, serving up fish and chips, hamburgers, dim sims, potato cakes, and chicken wings for lunch and dinner. The menu covers familiar Australian chippy staples, and the shop handles a high volume of phone orders alongside walk-ins. Dine-in, takeaway, and no-contact delivery are all available, making it a flexible option for families, uni students, and solo diners alike.
The venue is wheelchair accessible with an accessible car park and entrance, free parking on site, and a kids’ menu for younger diners. Beer and alcohol are also on offer, which gives it a bit more of a sit-down restaurant feel than the average Bendigo fish and chip shop.
Reviews from the past year or so are a mixed bag. Some visitors have found the food genuinely enjoyable, and the busy fryers suggest strong demand. Others have raised concerns about wait times, order accuracy, and consistency in food quality, particularly around chips and fish portions. It appears the experience can vary depending on the night and how stretched the kitchen is.
For anyone in the Bendigo area looking for a chippy that offers dine-in comfort alongside takeaway and delivery, it is worth checking current reviews before heading in, and phoning ahead during the dinner rush to confirm your order.

Good fish and chips here. On the way home we decided to call into the McIvor Road Fish and Chip shop. Although there was only a few of us in the shop we could tell that they must do a lot of phone orders as the deep fryers were working overtime. We ordered the stock standard fish and chips with potato cakes to takeaway. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the order was filled fairly quickly considering how busy they were. Although there are a few metal seats outside, no tables, this is a predominately takeaway store. Worth considering if you are after a feed of fish and chips.
Worst food I have ever had smaller piece of fish and was burnt as hell wow done in 4 bites potato cakes were tiny nothing in then either chips hard as a rock chicken wings was not good dim sims were okay I’m done getting food from here 3rd time in a town it’s been horrible
Used to be my go to for fish and chips. Unsure of what has gone wrong for the business but the customer service is absolutely ridiculous. Either they never answer the phone or if they do they don’t even get your order right. I waited over 45 minutes before the bloke lied to me saying that my order had been collected already. By the time I had finally gotten my food it was an hour and a half later. The bloke just stood there looking at the machine for 20 minutes. The food quality has deteriorated heaps and isn’t worth the price.
Just wow. Waited 25 minutes for 1 piece of flake and chips. In Melbourne I buy an adult flake and minimum chips to feed my 5 & 6 yo. Not here! The piece of flake ($9.50 from memory) was as big as my 2 thumbs together and 50% was batter. This place is horrific. And slow. My gosh 25 minutes to cook a piece of fish and minimum chips. I’m yet to find good fish and chips in Bendigo. And the service. Well if you want to be treated like you are an inconvenience you are in the right shop. Just wow. I’m still in shock by how bad the piece of fish was. I saw on the menu they sell kids fish. I don’t know how a piece of fish could be any smaller than the piece I was given and charged adult size price for.
They weren’t using gloves, and one of the workers even touched his nose with the same hand while handling the food. I questioned him about gloves, but he completely ignored me and continued doing the same thing. This is unhygienic and unacceptable. I will never visit this place again.
Very disappointed in the service and quality of food. Waited for over an hour past the time the order was noted as ready online. Poor communication and Ignored my daughter even trying to ask about our order. When she finally got the food it was inedible. Tiny amount of fish swamped in batter, oil and disgusting. Don’t risk it this food is horrid and a total rip off. Really really really bad service and food.
It’s like being in a train wreck. Waited over one hour past pick up time. The owner just yells in unintelligible English. I showed staff my order 4 times. 2 others returned with incorrect orders. When I finally got home they forgot the grilled fish. Do yourself a favour and don’t set foot in this madhouse
$12.50 for a piece of flake that looked like it had done an 8-month tour of duty behind the counter. I’ve seen fresher bait.
$2 for a potato cake the size of my big toenail and the “cook” was outside having a smoke while my order was apparently on smoko too.
Honestly feel crook just thinking about this place save your cash for the pokies !!
