About
Titanic Fish & Chips is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Bentleigh East, bringing an old-school approach to a classic Australian staple. The shop has built a quiet following among locals who appreciate straightforward, honest cooking done properly, and its solid reputation reflects that consistency.
The menu leans into traditional fare done with care. Regulars single out the flake, which is lightly crumbed and grilled rather than heavily battered, and the potato cakes get a mention too, praised for being light rather than the dense, oily variety found elsewhere. The chips have that old-fashioned quality that’s harder to find these days. Burgers also draw praise, with some visitors surprised by the value and quality on offer. It’s the kind of shop where the food speaks for itself without much fuss.
The venue is casual and family-friendly, with dine-in and takeaway both available. Free parking on site makes it a convenient stop for lunch or dinner, and wheelchair access means the shop is easy for everyone to get to. The team behind the counter is consistently described as welcoming and friendly, which adds to the relaxed neighbourhood feel.
For anyone in Bentleigh East searching for a reliable fish and chips experience that doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, Titanic is worth keeping on the list. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to save time.

Cannot recommend this place enough. Ducked into this standard looking fish and chip shop looking for a cheap bite while my clothes were washing at the local laundromat and was simply blown away by the price and quality of the burgers here. Strongly recommend ‘the lot’ as it is cheaper then similar burgers at most other restaurants, yet comes with a larger serving size and genuinely higher quality. Tasty food made with genuine care by the wonderfully lovely couple that share ownership of this shop. Walked the distance without laundry for the first time today because I could not shake the craving of this burger, and ended up having a wholesome, friendly conversation with the wonderful lady who runs the store as her husband prepared my meal. If you ever find yourself in the area, please do yourself a favour and dip in to say hi and grab something to eat 🙂
I had fish and chips here for the first time today. It was delicious and more like the old fashioned style of chips. Fish was great and potato cakes are not just a big oily cake of batter. I’ve been looking to find a good fish and chips since moving to the area and this beats the other 2 I have tried so far. The family who run it are also lovely. I’d rather give them my money than another fast food chain. 10/10 would recommend.
I don’t find any joy in giving a business a low score: but in this case, it’s needed.
Chips were soggy, and not the slightest bit crunchy.
Flake was just “OK”. Batter was once again not the slightest bit crunchy.
I thought to myself that they might just be having an off day, and are not normally this bad; but…
The “home made” tartar sauce was horrible and tasted really cheap. This was thought out and prepared in advance, and is an indication of the overall quality of the food.
I was going to give one star overall, but I wanted to be kind.
In this area of Melbourne, the standard for fish and chips is on the high side. I hope this review gives this business a push to up it’s game.
Did not disappoint for our first time trying out our new local! Very friendly team, too. Old school fish and chips, very good!
If you are thinking of coming here because it’s a bit closer to home – don’t!! Greasy soggy fish – requested grilled – but crumbed & soggy. Chips soggy, brown and small – tasting like old oil. Must not change oil often at all. Obvious this take away place has no idea what they are doing. Unable to even eat a handful of the chips. So disappointing!! Name appropriate – a sinking ship – surprised if they had a repeat customer.
A traditional fish and chip shop where I love the way they do the lightly crumbed then grilled flake. Plenty of parking and the lady who serves me is always very friendly, my new local spot.
Wow! We’ve just had the nicest fish burger we’ve ever tasted. The fish was amazing with a beautiful batter. Golden crispy magic. Absolutely delicious! The service here is always so warm and friendly too.
The best chesseburgers in Melbourne by a long way. Not expensive either. Wherever I am in the area, I try to go there for lunch. I have never been disappointed. Scallops are great too. No other place I know of in Melbourne is that good for burgers.
