About
Bill’s Takeaway Fish & Chip Shop has been a familiar fixture in Camberwell for more than two decades. The shop is a genuine family-run operation, with staff who remember regulars by name and bring a warmth to every order that keeps locals coming back. It’s a cash-only, takeaway setup, so simple and unfussy, which suits the no-frills charm the place has built its reputation on.
The battered flake is the headline act here, hand-battered and cooked to order. Potato cakes are a consistent favourite, and the chips are well regarded for not being overly greasy. The menu covers the classics you’d expect from a well-loved fish and chip shop, with a decent variety to keep the whole family happy. Being family-friendly, it’s a practical choice for a Friday night dinner run with the kids in tow.
Consistency can vary visit to visit, with some meals hitting the mark perfectly and the occasional order falling short, so it pays to go in during a busy service when the fryers are running hot. The cheerful, attentive service is a reliable constant, the kind that makes a simple takeaway feel like more than just a transaction. Free street parking makes the stop easy.
For anyone around Camberwell after an honest, old-school fish and chips experience, Bill’s is well worth knowing about. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to keep wait times down.

Amazing owners, kindest family owned business with loyal customers that keep coming back. This business has been going for 20+ years, Petra and Dustin can remember the customers by name it’s perfect customer service always.
Best fish and chips on the go!!
The food is great! Cheese sticks have me doing extra in the gym! Burgers are the best! Not to mention the fact they can be extremely busy and your order is still ready within 10-15 minutes depending on your order.
Bill’s Fish and Chips – A Nostalgic Delight
Old-school fish and chips still exist, Bill’s Fish & Chips is a testament to that. From the moment you walk in, you’re transported to a place where family run shops still thrive. The chalkboard menu features all the classics, from sausages in batter to steamed dim sims. Whether you opt for a hamburger with the lot or build your own, the choices are endless.
The fresh souvlaki, with its tender lamb and perfectly balanced ingredients, stands out without being overloaded with lettuce and tomato. The warmth and friendliness of the owners, along with the regular clients who come to collect their orders, create a bustling yet welcoming atmosphere. Despite its unassuming shopfront, Bill’s Fish and Chips is a hidden gem.
It’s evident that Bill’s Fish and Chips is a local icon worth visiting. With great prices and no corners cut on quality, this place is a must-visit. Just remember, it’s cash only, but there’s an ATM provided in-store for your convenience.
I went to get the family dinner last Friday and was served by the sweetest girl. Her name was Ava and she asked me about my day and really made the family business feel like a family. When I ordered the kids chicken nuggets she even gave me an extra one and wished me a good weekend. Thanks to her I had a lovely Friday night and an amazing election weekend. Thank you Ava for making the store feel like a true local gem ❤️
Great fish & chips shop with good quality food, decent variety, not that greasy, friendly service
Just picked up some late lunch at Bill’s Fish & Chips … Wow! I was taken straight back to my childhood 😁. The owner was just lovely and the battered flake was hand battered right before my eyes! I couldn’t believe it, the potato cakes were Delicious! The way fish & chips use to be – VERY impressed … Definitely will visit again when I’m on the area 👍👍👍👍👍
On this occasion, the deep fried flake was soggy and soft after opening the bag within a couple of minutes. New owners? Sadly, I couldn’t eat the second fish and had to throw it out. I don’t think I will be returning. 😔
We have now had the pleasure of fish and chips from Bill’s twice, and it was delicious both times. Great grilled fish and fabulous chips and potato cakes. Incredibly cheerful and friendly staff. Definitely worth going too.
We’ve had fish and chips from bills a couple of times recently and were pretty happy with them. Unfortunately not tonight!
Grilled fish was inedible, potato cakes mostly batter and overcooked and the chips were the only good thing about the meal.
Won’t be going back!
