About
Capel Sound Fish and Chips is a well-regarded fish and chip shop serving the Mornington Peninsula community, earning a solid reputation across hundreds of visits. The flake and chips is the signature order here, with generous cuts of battered flake that regulars come back for time and again. Calamari rings are another highlight, cooked to a tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture rather than the rubbery result that can let down lesser shops. Potato cakes, prawns, and other classic sides round out a menu that covers all the bases.
Freshness and consistency are what keep people coming back. The food arrives hot and crispy, portions are notably generous, and the pricing is considered good value for the peninsula. Staff are known for being friendly and efficient, with no long waits at the counter even when it’s busy. The shop has welcomed large groups by pulling tables together inside, so families and gatherings are well accommodated.
Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and the shop is wheelchair accessible. Open for lunch and dinner, it draws a steady crowd from across the area. For anyone after fish and chips near Capel Sound, this one is worth keeping on the list.

This is hands down the best fish and chips I’ve ever had! The seafood is incredibly fresh, and the flavors are amazing. The scallops were my absolute favorite—so tender and flavorful. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the quality truly stands out. Highly recommend!
Best fish and chips I’ve had in ages. Fresh, crispy and tasty. Friendly staff and great portions. Will definitely be back:)
We stopped in here on a rainy Sunday evening with a group of 11 and were so grateful to find somewhere open and welcoming. The team kindly let us pull all the tables together inside, which made for a cozy fish and chip dinner.
The lady serving was really friendly and personable, and the service overall was lovely. Food was decent — my grilled fish was on the smaller side but had good flavour, and the chips were hot and fresh.
Plenty of drink options in the fridge too. A great little local spot for an easy, relaxed meal.
DO NOT BUY FOOD FROM THIS STORE !!
Ordered over $200 of fish and chips.
They only gave us half the order.
They would not bring us the food we payed for.
And fish and chips are of poor quality.
The worst fish and chips on the peninsula.
We should have gone to Hectors.
Obviously this is a regular habit of this store.
Absolutely fantastic fish and chips! We started with one flake each and a side of calamari rings, and honestly, the calamari was the star — perfectly cooked, melt-in-your-mouth tender, not chewy or rubbery like you get at so many places.
Everything was so good that even though we were already full, we kept going back for more sides — pineapples, prawns — and eventually ordered another whole fish to share. That’s how tasty it was. Full stomachs, zero regret.
On top of the amazing food, the lady at the counter was incredibly sweet and welcoming. Her warm personality really added to the whole experience.
Great food, generous portions, and genuinely lovely service. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend this place to anyone craving proper fish and chips.
Great tasty food. Went with Dad and we were served with two chunky flakes. They even chucked in a couple of extra potato cakes.
Highly recommend!!!!
Have been coming to this Fish n Chips shop for years. Fish is always succulent & fresh. Chips divine and potato cakes to die for. I especially love that the fish n chips are fully wrapped up in butcher’s paper… old school prowess.
The hamburgers are amazing too.
Has such a nice dinner at such a good price. We had two flake and they were perfect! Staff were so lovely and would recommend to a friend!
