About
Clayton Fish & Chips has built a solid four-plus star reputation among the locals of Clayton, Victoria, and it’s easy to see why the venue draws a steady crowd for both lunch and dinner. The batter here is a genuine highlight, coming out crispy and well-seasoned on generous cuts of flake and whiting, with regulars also praising the snapper, which arrives fresh, non-oily, and in impressively large portions. Potato cakes are another favourite, fluffy on the inside and crisped to a golden finish. The chips are served warm, and the overall value for money is a recurring theme, with the shop offering in-store takeaway pricing that is noticeably cheaper than ordering through other channels.
The menu covers classic fish and chip shop territory with the addition of burgers, and the burger with the lot draws particular praise from those who try it. Service is known for being friendly and efficient, which suits the busy student crowd from nearby Monash University as much as it suits families looking for a fuss-free meal. A kids’ menu and table service make it a comfortable choice for families dining in.
Clayton Fish & Chips offers dine-in, takeaway, and delivery options, with wheelchair-accessible parking and entrance making it easy for everyone to visit. Credit cards, debit cards, and tap-to-pay are all accepted. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to keep wait times short.

Ordered a snapper pack which came with a huge snapper, decent amount of chips and a can of drink for 8.50. Fish was big, fresh and not oily at all. Chips were a little soggy not sure why, but it tasted alright. Bought a tartare sauce for $1 and hmm, the tartare sauce wasn’t that tasty as I thought it would be but it’s an external brand, so yea. Other than that, friendly owners, affordable and nice food 👍🏻
So we have been long standing customers here. But seemed like tonight was our last. Came home fish and potato cakes oily. Crocketts over cooked. Last time we will go there.
One of the best fish and chips shop I’ve ever been too. Fish was extremely crunchy and fresh and the chips were nice and warm. Not only that, it was cheap for its size. Definitely recommend people to try this out.
Soft and crispy fish, chips were dense. Needs more seasoning or need to eat with sauce. Fast service.
AMAZING. 30percent cheaper takeaway instore. current menu as of today aug 2023 attached. Perfectly cooked with crispy batter. Thick large pieces of fish (flake and whiting pictured). perfectly salted. i really cant fault their fish. Their chips arent the uber crispy type i like (more the traditional type), so i usually just get two large pieces of fish for myself…for only 7 bucks a piece. unbelievable value.
Best burger with the lot I’ve had in a long long time. Potato cakes were fluffy on the inside, nice and crispy on the outside and perfectly salted. Service was friendly, efficient and welcoming. I will definitely go back there again and I highly recommend it to anyone who may have forgotten what a proper fish’n’chips burger tastes like. Wow!
We ordered over $100 worth of fish and chips including four flakes and two grilled flakes. When the fish arrived at home, it smelt bad and tasted like amonia. I returned it and was only given a partial refund, so I sought a refund for the entire amount of fish and eventually got it. this was our last visit, discusting oily and service was very poor !
Go-to fish and chip place. Outstanding food every time, highly recommend the kids pack for a great meal even for adults. Food is always cooked fresh and service is very quick. Definitely an easy meal option when feeling lazy!
