About
Doncaster Fish & Chips has built a solid reputation among locals in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, and the numbers back it up. The shop is well-rated across a strong volume of reviews, with regulars returning time and again for the light battered fish and thick, golden chips that the kitchen consistently delivers.
The menu leans into generous portions as a point of difference. Fish pieces are notably large, potato cakes come out bigger than most comparable shops, and the chips arrive hot and golden. Burgers also draw praise for their size and quality. The batter on the fish is kept light, and the cooking is reliably consistent, which goes a long way toward explaining why so many people make a return visit. Serving sizes here are the kind that leave little room for complaints.
The shop itself is kept exceptionally clean, with a casual atmosphere that suits families well. Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and delivery is on offer for those who prefer to eat at home. Card and mobile payments are accepted, and free parking is available on-site, which takes the hassle out of a quick lunch or dinner run. Service is friendly, though it pays to allow a little extra time during busy periods if your order was quoted a short wait.
Open seven days for lunch and dinner, Doncaster Fish & Chips is a reliable spot for anyone after a proper fish and chip shop meal in the area. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to avoid a longer wait.

Great fish and chip shop!
First of all, like a lot of other reviews have mentioned, it’s really clean. Not just for a fish and chip shop, this place is seriously clean!
The place is owned and run by a fantastic family. Jimmy, Gina, Nick and the team are all lovely. Everyone is incredibly friendly which adds to the service which is already top notch.
Of course what is important is the food. No cutting corners on quantity or quality and all for a very reasonable price. Loved it!
Would definitely recommend giving this place a go.
Will back for sure!
This family run business has outsmart most other businesses in the vicinity. The quality of fish was fresh ,great taste and crispy texture with batter coating done perfectly. The potato cakes and chips were of outstanding quality. Best customer service with great quality food at very reasonable cost. Best fish and chips eaten after a long time . Would love to visit this place more often to fulfill my apetite for great FISH N CHIPS along with great addition of Potato Cakes.

REVIEW:
💛 Doncaster Fish & Chips was one of the BEST potato cakes we’ve ever had. Crunchy layers with craggily bits and you could taste the potato. It was delicious. Definitely in the top 3 potato cakes I’ve ever had.
The portions for the Double pack is generous. We didn’t manage to finish our small chips but we definitely got value at the price point.
The batter for the flake, and the flake itself all tasted great. 👍
🤔 However:
1. (As another Google reviewer has mentioned) It would be nice if it came with lemon to cut through the oiliness.
2. It would also be nice if it came with salad. They have lettuce and tomato (as offered in their burgers). Add a little tangy dressing and it’s a solid meal! 🥗
They weren’t fully prepped for dine in service.
Nonetheless, eating out of takeaway cartons was a good alternative. They also offered REALLY nice quality plastic forks!
Table salt is available as well if you need that extra savouriness. 🧂
Great fish and chips. Cooked to perfection. They were so good that I stopped back on my way hope to commend them on their quality. Highly recommended.
Seriously good fish and chips spot. Always cooked well and the serving sizes are monstrous. Massive fish pieces and the potato cakes are twice as big as other places. Chips always nice and golden, a spot we keep on returning back. Burger was delicious and steamed Dim Sims hot the spot. Friendly staff and the kids love watching them work. One of the best fish and chips going around without a doubt.
Was an overall pleasant experience, short lunch wait, prices aren’t too high. I had a lunch pack or whatever there version is called. I burnt my mouth on the hot fish but that was my own fault 🤣 overall was good.
Normal fish and chip shop, decor seemed nice. My only issue was the size of a large chips. Not enough chips for $10 when comparing with other local stores.
Ordered a couple of items.
Quoted 20 minutes. Waited 35. Couple other customers seemed frustrated and spoke to staff about the wait.
Staff seemed inefficient and confused.
