About
The Geelong Boat House is a casual fish and chip shop perched on the Geelong foreshore, with waterside and rooftop seating that draws a steady crowd of locals and visitors alike. The location, right by the water and a short stroll from parkland and the city centre, is a genuine drawcard, and the relaxed, open atmosphere makes it a natural choice for families looking to sit down and enjoy a meal outdoors.
The fish and chips themselves are the main event. Regulars and first-timers alike note the light, crispy batter on fresh fish and chips that arrive golden and properly seasoned rather than greasy. Service is quick and staff are described as polite and helpful, which keeps things moving even when the venue is busy. Beyond the classic serve, the menu runs to a kids’ menu for younger diners, and there is a bar offering beer, wine, spirits, and coffee for those wanting to linger.
With well over a thousand reviews and a solid reputation across Geelong, the Boat House carries consistent praise for the quality of its core offering. Pricing draws mixed opinions from some, so it is worth knowing this is a step up from a basic suburban takeaway in both setting and cost. Dine-in and takeaway are both available, making it flexible for different needs. Families are well catered for, with high chairs on hand.
Phone ahead during busy periods, particularly over summer weekends.

We chanced upon this place while fishing at the pier . The fish was super fresh, perfectly cooked with a light, crispy batter. The chips were just right — golden, not greasy, and nicely seasoned. Everything tasted homemade and served hot. Great quality and generous portions. The grilled fish ( we had flathead tail and barramundi ) were tender, perfectly cooked with love and fresh. It was so good , and we wanted more . We even took away some of their chips because it was so golden n crispy . I have to say we may have found the best fish and chips in Victoria. Will come back j just for this ! Also, they have a fire place for winter and great water view.
On our way to Lorne we stopped for some fish and chips and decided to try the boat house. We were a party of 8 and there was no problem getting a table to accommodate that.
When you walk in you place your order at the front counter and they will call your number when it’s ready. You really can find a table first but I’d say it just depends on how busy it is.
We ordered our food and drink and our order was ready in a timely manner. My wife enjoyed her fish and chips and I wasn’t real happy with my burger. Not sure what it was but the consistency of the meat wasn’t appealing. The chips were good and I ate all of them. Overall it wasn’t bad but we would definitely try another place first before going back.
The first thing that you notice is the pirate style ramp and the sign that reads don’t feed the seagulls because they will crap on your food and you overall Very excellent service and great 😊 food I really enjoyed the fish and chips they are so delicious 😋 and the staff are very friendly best fish and chip restaurant in Geelong a must visit for any fish and chip enthusiasts 10/10
Right on the Geelong foreshore and a short walk to parklandand the city the Boat House was a lovely place for lunch.
Crunchy battered fish and perfect chips made this stop worthwhile.
Fish and chips are great and the atmosphere and view is very relaxing and peaceful to enjoy your food. Would recommend if you haven’t tried.
Had great fresh well cooked fish and chips for lunch here today. Nice spot not too busy. Quick and efficient service. Nice view nothing fancy or pretensions. Maybe a bit pricey compared to some other places. But it was fresh and right on top of the water.
Perfect place to enjoy sitting on the balcony overlooking the water. Fish n chips were super fresh and yum!
Lovely plate of fish & chips. Nothing mindblowing but a decent one. Recommended to drop by if you are into a more quiet environment with lesser tourists. This place offers quite a view by the harbour.
