About
Theo’s Fish Bar Gluten Free is something of a rarity in Ivanhoe’s dining scene: a fish and chip shop where the entire menu is gluten free, without any compromise on flavour or variety. Sit down for lunch or dinner in the dining room, grab takeaway on the way home, or order delivery. The shop is fully wheelchair accessible across the car park, entrance and seating, and there’s a kids’ menu that makes it an easy choice for families. Reservations are accepted, which is handy during busier service periods.
The menu covers the classics and then some. Potato cakes are a firm favourite, and the house-made dim sims draw regular praise. A seafood basket is a crowd-pleaser for those after a broader spread. Fish tacos have become a word-of-mouth highlight, with fried fish bites, a squeeze of lemon and fresh accompaniments making them hard to overlook. Non-GF burger buns are available for those dining with mixed-dietary groups, a practical touch that broadens the appeal for everyone at the table.
The shop has earned a solid reputation across a healthy number of reviews. The fish itself is consistently described as well cooked, with hot, crispy chips to match. Service is friendly and attentive, and the space is kept clean and well presented. For anyone around Ivanhoe who either requires or simply prefers gluten-free fish and chips, this place removes the usual guesswork entirely.

A truly wonderful lunchtime experience with the most relaxed & friendly customer service. The fish was cooked perfectly, the chips were hot & crispy and alongside a chickpea & beetroot salad we couldn’t have asked for anything more. Absolutely perfect!
Our local fish and chip takeaway – obviously the entire menu is Gluten Free, but they also do regular non-GF burger buns too. Potato cakes are delicious, as are the home made dimmies.
Absolutely speechless, usually avoid gluten free food, but I was with my boss that has no option, and oh my goodness! Was actually some of the best fish and chips I’ve had in my life, everything was so amazing, got a seafood basket, and it was all beautiful, the Nutella doughnuts as well, mouth watering!
Very clean and well presented, with great service by Ethan. He recommended the fish tacos, which are absolutely incredible. We had the fried fish bite in ours and it came with a squeeze of lemon and everything was just fresh and flavoursome. And the best bit – everything is gluten-free.
Absolute one man show. As someone who works shifts alone I’m genuinely astonished to see the guy who was working to be so calm and collected with multiple costumers. Respect to him working by himself honestly. I got grilled fish with a generous amount of lemon and I couldn’t be more happy. I’m sick of fish shops that just reek of oil and I’m happy the place felt clean and food actually felt healthy.
I was so excited to see GF fish and chips. The range of selection on the menu was impressive and reminiscent of your country town fish and chip shop (did someone say GF dimsims and pineapple fritter). The items were clearly separated between GF and non-GF.
I just wished they did crumbed fish as an option because the batter is a bit heavy, especially when you haven’t had batter for many, many years.
Theo’s Fish Bar is a standout, especially if you’re looking for reliable gluten-free options 🐟 The food is fresh, light and perfectly cooked, without feeling oily or heavy. You wouldn’t even notice it’s gluten free — which is the best compliment. The staff are friendly and efficient, and service is quick even during busy times.
Top picks: Gluten-free fish and chips, calamari, potato cakes. A great place for a comforting meal where quality and care clearly matter.
Loveddd my grilled flake and chips!!! Was so delish, came out super quick and the beetroot salad was really good too! 🙂
