About
Burke Road Fish & Chips has built a loyal following in Kew, with regulars returning week after week for freshly cooked fish and chips at prices that don’t sting. The batter is consistently light and crispy, and everything arrives hot, a detail that matters when you’re heading home with a bag of takeaway. The shop itself is always clean and casual, the kind of place that feels reliable rather than flashy.
The menu covers plenty of the classics. Grilled and crumbed flake are both popular choices, and potato cakes are regularly singled out as a highlight. Pineapple fritters and fried dim sims round out the deep-fried side of things, while the chicken schnitzel burger has earned a firm reputation of its own. Generous in size, with a crispy, juicy schnitzel and fresh fillings, it holds up well even on the walk home.
Service is prompt and courteous, and ordering is straightforward with takeaway and delivery both available through the shop’s website. Free street parking nearby makes a quick pickup easy for anyone in the Kew area. Families are well catered for, and the relaxed atmosphere suits a casual mid-week dinner just as much as a weekend treat.
For anyone searching for a dependable fish and chip shop in Melbourne’s inner east, Burke Road is well worth a visit. Check opening hours and menu details below.

Disappointed to open up the box for my grilled whiting. Where’s the rest of it?! For $9! My partners snapper was barely any bigger. Ripped off! 2 tiny pieces of fish for $18… we won’t be going back.
I am absolutley appualed from how bad the food was, the potato cakes were NOT WARM, they were cold, almost frozen. The burger we ordered was not well done. Got food posining. The gave me the wrong sauces in my burger, instead of a chicken patty it was FISH, I AM EXTREMELY ALLERGIC. The only positive thing was how nice the front person was she was lovley. The manger was not very nice either.
Just had the meal for 1 and I have to say, some of the best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. I’ve been to many over the years and hope I work back in the area soon to enjoy again
Our regular fish & chips place and the grilled/crumbed flake is always nice as are the potato cakes! They are very courteous and prompt. Thx
We’ve been going here for about a year and it’s delicious. I sometimes wonder if their fryer is closed but it’s just that the shop is always super clean!
The batter on their fried items is light, and always done fresh. Highly recommend their pineapple fritters and fried dimmies. We also often get their hamburgers – they’re affordable and I love how fresh they are over a usual rich/fatty burger. Everything we order from here is great. Highly recommend!!
Great food as always.
Always happy to order here.
Won’t get much out of the owner in service.
But there for the food so all good.
Bought the chicken schnitzel burger. Generous portion. Schnitzel was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and i only started eating after my walk home! The lettuce and tomato fillings were very fresh.
Really good fish and chips – fresh, hot, crispy at a reasonable price. Convenient to order via the website, quick turnaround. Easy parking as it next door to the service station. Friendly staff.
