About
Pappa’s Ocean Catch is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Melton, drawing a steady crowd of families, groups, and solo diners to its casual, accessible venue. The menu covers the classics and then some, with flake, dim sims, souvlaki, and burgers all featuring alongside the shop’s signature potato cakes. Those potato cakes have earned a genuine following, with regulars singling them out as the best in Melton, crispy on the outside and fluffy through the middle.
Fish and chips are the obvious drawcard, and many first-timers have come away impressed enough to make it a regular stop. The souvlaki also gets a good run, and the dim sims are well regarded. Food arrives hot and well packed, which matters when you’re ordering takeaway or delivery. The service is generally warm and friendly, adding to the relaxed atmosphere.
Feedback on consistency has been mixed over time, with some regulars observing changes in quality following a change of ownership. Portion sizes have also divided opinion. The shop still holds a solid rating across a healthy number of responses, and plenty of Melton locals continue to rate it highly.
Dine-in, takeaway, and delivery are all available across lunch and dinner. The venue is wheelchair-accessible, has free parking, accepts reservations, and offers a kids’ menu, making it a practical choice for families. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to keep wait times down.

1 fried flake, 1 grilled flake, Min chips, 1 Fried Dim Sim, 2 Potato Cakes, 3 fried Scallops.
Not the best, small fish but full price charge.
Oil needs to be changed and neon yellow fries. Not recommended did not enjoy any of it and will not buy from Pappa’s Ocean Catch again.
EDIT: since i posted my original review, the owner has changed hands.
The chips are water-logged, and after much earnest feedback, the owner has decided to stick with low quality ingredients overall.
It’s a shame, whenever i feel like cubing this place a second chance, i am sorely disappointed.
The working staff are very polite though.
*I no longer live in the area, but i make sure to pop in whenever I’m in town.
Consistent/great quality with generous portions.
Staff have always been refined and polite, with a focus on friendly service.
You must try their potato cakes/scallops!*
We have just moved here to Melton and after researching and reading reviews from all fish and chip shops here,we decided to go with this one. And definitely was not disappointed!!! Flake was awesome, souvlaki was absolutely delicious. Kids were very very happy,so looking forward to our next fish and chips night!!!!
Thankyou guys!!!!! 😋⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Steak s/wich was awful The meat tasted like it was old , 1/2 a slice of bacon & a sliver of onion. Worst ever. McDonald’s would have been better. Oil was old Potato cakes were soaking in it & the dim sims should have been cooked more. Never go there again !!!!
Some of the best fish and chips I have tasted in Melton. Dim Sims were also very tasty. My new number one to go to
First time ordering from here – I read the reviews and was convinced so gave it a go! Must say I was not let down – this fish and chips is bloody phenomenal- I will be coming back , that’s for sure! 👌🏼🔥
Potato cakes are super crispy and nice fluffy inside. Best Potato cakes in melton
My husband and I absolutely love this fish and chip shop. The fish is always fresh and, most importantly for me, it’s not oily at all. I normally can’t eat too much fried food because it upsets my stomach, so I very rarely have it. But the fried fish from this shop is completely different – I can enjoy it without any problems, and now it’s one of my favourite treats.
We always order an extra 15 mussels in batter every time we go, and they are consistently delicious – crispy, tasty, and really fresh. The quality is always the same, which is why we keep coming back twice a week. Highly recommended!
