About
Walnut Takeaway has built a solid reputation among Mildura fish and chip lovers, drawing steady crowds for its straightforward, no-fuss approach to a classic Australian favourite. With well over 300 reviews behind it, the shop holds a strong four-plus star standing that speaks for itself.
One of the more talked-about points of difference here is the use of beef tallow for cooking, a traditional method that gives the fish and chips a distinctive old-school flavour many locals associate with childhood visits to the chip shop. The fish is battered fresh to order, which keeps it juicy inside with a notably crisp exterior. Regulars frequently mention the generous portion sizes, particularly the battered fish, as a highlight. It is worth noting that some visits have attracted mixed feedback around chip consistency, so the experience can vary.
The menu is built around the classics, and the shop is open for lunch and dinner, making it a practical option across the day. Walnut Takeaway caters well for families, with a kids’ menu available alongside the standard range. Takeaway and delivery are both on offer, and the venue is wheelchair-accessible with free on-site parking and card payment accepted.
A reliable spot for fish and chips in Mildura, especially for those who appreciate the old-fashioned tallow-cooked style. Phone ahead during the dinner rush as a wait is typical.

Highly recommend this place!!!
The Fish and chips here would have to be the best in Mildura.🤩🤩🤩
To start the fish is freshly battered to order so it’s always delicious and juicy and they always give big portions, the chips are amazing they’re nice and crispy and again they give good portions 😁
The burgers are big and juicy, I definitely recommend the Schnitzel Cheese and Gravy.
Sad to see the souvlaki’s go but they make up for it with all of their other amazing food 😄
The customer service is always top notch, the workers always have a nice smile and an amazing attitude that combined with the cleanliness of the store really provides a nice atmosphere and I will definitely be ordering again soon while recommending this place to my friends 🙌🙌
Can’t believe this bought $6 worth of chips and this is all we got literally the size of my hand and the tray wasn’t even full, chips were cold. Good service but this a rip off.
Was charged $16 for 2x 600ml drinks ($8 each) when their signs advertise add a 1.25l drink for $3.50. When I asked about why I was charged $8 for 600ml I was told “they are normally $4.50 so you got a good deal” didnt feel listened too and felt taken advantage of
Very disappointed!
A rating of 3 is generous!
Chips were soggy, fish wasn’t very fresh, not enough salt.
Inconsistent cook on the chips with some quite dark and others blonde. Won’t rush back!
Waited an hour for $16 worth of chips for them to be undercooked.
Ridiculous.
Prioritising Menulog and door dash while the shop is full of people waiting.
Worse experience I’ve had from a takeaway in town.
Never again will I spend a cent here
Great fish and chips! Fresh, a reasonable wait and great value.
We ordered 4 battered fish & $10 chips. Chips size was smaller than what we’re use to getting for $10 but it was just enough for our family of 5 🙂 but the fish??!! Are you kidding me! The size, the CRUNCH & CRISP, the perfect amount of saltiness, if there was lemon wedges & tartare sauce ohhh that would have been game over!!! The best fish I’ve had in Mildura. Will defs be hitting this place up especially with lent starting!!
