About
The Fish Inn has been serving the Mount Waverley community for a long time, and the loyalty it inspires speaks for itself. This is the kind of fish and chip shop that reminds you why the format endures: no frills, no fuss, just well-made food at prices that feel almost impossible in the current climate. Everything still comes wrapped in butcher’s paper, which feels exactly right.
The menu covers the classics, and the burgers draw nearly as much praise as the fish and chips. Regulars favour the chips by the handful and a burger with the lot, and the fish is consistently singled out as some of the best in Melbourne’s east. The shop carries a genuine sense of nostalgia without feeling dated, and the service is warm and attentive across both the lunch and dinner crowds.
The Fish Inn holds a strong reputation, well over four and a half stars, built on a modest but loyal review base. It accepts all major payment methods, offers dine-in, takeaway, and delivery, and has free parking on-site and along nearby streets. It does not take reservations, so during busy periods it pays to arrive early or phone ahead.
For anyone in the Mount Waverley area after an honest, affordable fish and chip shop with a bit of history to it, this one is worth the detour. See opening hours and menu below.

This is a family run fish and chip shop that has been around for a long time, whilst the decor is old the food is pretty consistent. In my opinion the shop could use with a lick of paint…
The staff are friendly and there is plenty of parking out the front. There are a couple of tables inside that you eat there if you wanted. If you ring by phone generally it is ready in 10-15 minutes…
There is a good plain burger deal with chips and a drink.
We alternate between a couple of fish n chip shops in the area
This has been our local since I was a kid and the current owners dad ran it, and I haven’t found a place I like better. It’s not fancy but they do a great burger and everything is still wrapped up in butchers paper, I still love hugging the package to my chest and inhaling the chip and paper smell like I’ve done since I was a kid. Love your work guys!
Best fish and chips around, at 1990’s prices. Service is excellent. Not many left like this in Melbourne. Highly recommended for any Aussie connoisseur of fish and chips.
And there is a nice bonus… you can read a copy of New Scientist magazine at the Fish Inn whilst waiting. How good is that!
Spectacular fish, chips and burgers! Con runs an authentic local fish and chippery that is simply outstanding. Must try and enjoy a handful of chips and burger with the lot. This place has nostalgia but also excellent service and quality food.
Just discovered this gem. Walking distance from home. Delicious fish & chips & friendly staff, reasonable prices. Will definitely go again. Thank you 😊
Been coming here for over a decade and the food is always fresh and portions are generous. If you’re wanting a nostalgic old school fish and chip experience give this place a go
A rare gem. I’ve been an avid fish and chipper for many years and can honestly say I’ve seen some average shops this is the opposite. The fish inn is hands down the best I’ve discovered in Melbourne. I have been a regular now for for roughly 6 months now. The owner Con is a great bloke and happy to stop for a genuine conversation even after he’s closed. He’ll take orders right up until close, unlike others he will still take orders. I believe this shop has been in his family a few generations. Thanks..
The Fish Inn serves the best Fish and chips I’ve ever had. Service is personalised and sincere, and I have been blessed to be served by Con, and years ago, by Con’s parents. The dim sims, flake, potato cakes are super. Chips are always generous. Cannot recommend highly enough!!
