About
Gipps Street Fish and Chips has earned one of the highest ratings of any fish and chip shop in the Port Fairy area, and the regulars who drive out to Gipps Street make it very clear why. The flake is the star of the menu, arriving fresh, generously sized, and wrapped in a light, crunchy batter that avoids any hint of grease. Chips are cut thick, closer to steak fries than the thin variety, and arrive piping hot with plenty of potato in every piece.
The homemade tartare sauce draws particular attention. It costs a little extra but is considered well worth ordering alongside a combo. Potato cakes also feature as a firm favourite for those wanting something extra alongside the main meal. Family packs make the shop a practical choice for groups, and prices are noted as reasonable across the board.
Dine-in seating is available on site with toilets nearby, making it a comfortable stop for families. The service is friendly and quick, with staff who keep the mood relaxed even during busy periods. The shop is relatively new to Port Fairy’s dining scene but has already built a strong following with both locals and visitors passing through the region.

Rate 4+ star. As I understand it, this is newly re-opened maybe a week ago. Food great. Fish fresh and huge pieces. We did take away dinner. Would be great spot in the day with view to dine in. At this point, have to pay cash while they set up eftpos machine. Have attached menus and pic since there is little info available online so far.
Really enjoyed the calamari! The chips were nice as were the dimsims. I’d say the only downside was the potato cakes which were small and thin. The service was friendly and fast and the location wpuld be great to eat your fish and chips outside next to the water on a nice day. I’d definitely go back for the calamari and to try the fish
THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS AND TARTARE SAUCE IN MY LIFE & STUNNING VIEW!!!
The cashier lady was very funny and friendly. I am obsessed with their homemade tartare sauce.
Recommended food: Combo C with Tartare sauce. You can enjoy crispy freshly caught flake nearby, scallop, calamari, and prawn♡♡
People in Port Fairy are very polite and welcoming. This port has a Switzerland greenery vibe and sea color of Maldives.
This would easily be the best fish n chips I’ve had. Not greasy and the chips are perfect large pieces. My wife and I had ours at the park opposite and soaked up the spring sunshine.
The best of the best fish n chips I’ve ever tasted .
Fresh as fresh , the chips are large cuts full of potato & with a crunch

Thank you for the amazing experience of aunthetic tasting fish & chips 🩷☘️💯
Tasty fish & chips – fish was fresh, not frozen, and was really tasty. Chips were crispy and more than the family could eat. Extra salt and vinegar available to add as you want. Everything was piping hot and the wait time, despite the summer holidays, was minimal. There are inside and outside seating areas to eat your take away too which was handy. Recommended.
Fantastic fish and chips place! The fish was fresh, perfectly cooked, and crispy, and the chips were hot and well seasoned. The steamed dim sims were spot on too, soft, tasty, and full of flavour. Quick service and great value for money. Definitely a go-to place and highly recommended.
Excellent! We spent only a few days in Port Fairy, and we went to this fish ‘n chips place twice for our lunch. The food is prepared perfectly, very fresh, delicious and the prices are reasonable. When you add the friendly service and the perfect view… do yourself a favour and enjoy your meal here. Highly recommend it 👌
