About
Richmond Fish and Chips sits on Swan Street in Richmond, Victoria, and has built a solid reputation among locals and visitors alike. The fish is battered and cooked fresh to order, and regulars note that the batter is light rather than overpowering, letting the flavour of the fish come through. Whiting features on the menu and is done to a crisp, golden finish, and the chips are consistently praised for being perfectly golden.
The menu covers a range of classic takeaway favourites. Flake, dim sims, potato cakes, scallops, and spring rolls all make an appearance, and the traditional burger has earned its own following for that old-school, nostalgic flavour that’s hard to find these days. Gravy on the chips is a popular addition, and the friendly counter service, with staff like Harry remembered by name, adds a personal touch to the experience.
Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and the shop also offers delivery for those who’d rather eat at home. It’s a family-friendly spot with a kids’ menu, and solo diners are well catered for too. As a Richmond fish and chip shop with strong customer satisfaction across more than two hundred visits, the consistency here is evident. Orders are wrapped well enough to stay warm on the trip home into the city.

This is by far the best tasting fish from any fish and chip shop I’ve ever eaten, the batter wasn’t crazy deep fried to take away the flavour from the fish and the fish bites my days, say less they were great. I would suggest this over larger chain fish and chip company’s.
Decent Food, but a Few Misses
We recently ordered from Richmond Fish and Chips in Melbourne and had a mixed experience. My partner ordered the Fish Pack, which came with fish, a potato patty, a dim sim, and tartare sauce, while I ordered a veggie burger, large chips with gravy, and a can of Coke.
First, the positives: the veggie burger was delicious and definitely a highlight! However, there were a few disappointments. My large chips were missing from the order, though the gravy came separately (and unfortunately, it was just average—I wouldn’t recommend it). Also, the chips in my partner’s Fish Pack weren’t salted, which would have added to the flavor. My partner thought his meal was okay but nothing special.
Overall, the experience was fine, but there’s room for improvement. Would love to give it another shot if the consistency improves.
Richmond Fish & Chips Shop delivers a classic and satisfying experience. Their traditional burger is packed with flavor, bringing back that nostalgic taste you can’t beat. The chips were perfectly golden and crispy, just the way they should be. A great spot for a no-fuss, delicious meal!
Started out good until we only got 1 piece of the 2 pieces we ordered of fish. When I questioned it I was almost sworn at by I am assuming the owner/manager. Lucky I am visiting from out of state. I’ll never go back here. Stay away unless you like being yelled at. Reminded me of Karen’s diner but he was serious !!
🐟 On Good Friday, we opted for takeaway from Richmond Fish and Chips, and the bustling atmosphere was a promising sign. The menu offered a great range of classic fish and chip shop fare, meeting our expectations.
The service was efficient, and the food did not disappoint. The kids particularly enjoyed the banana and pineapple fritters, which added a sweet touch to our meal.
However, we did encounter a minor hiccup. Despite inquiring about tartare sauce and ordering an extra portion, it was unfortunately missing from our pack. Given the busy environment, we chose not to check the contents on-site to avoid holding up the queue.
Overall, it was a satisfying experience, and we look forward to returning.
Fresh fish, battered and cooked in front of you and nice chips. Wrapped up very well so they were still warm when I got home in the city. Will go again
Fish (whiting) was done to perfection.
Chips and gravy were spot on
Thanks Harry for your friendly service
I recently visited Richmond Fish & Chips on Swan Street, and it was an absolute delight! I ordered a minimum chips, one flake, two dim sims, four scallops, a spring roll, and some tasty potato cakes. The chips were absolutely divine—crispy and perfectly seasoned. The fish was incredibly crunchy and delicious, and everything was seasoned just right with chicken salt. Highly recommend this spot for anyone craving top-notch fish and chips!
