About
Beluga Fish & Chippery is one of South Yarra’s best-regarded fish and chip shops, carrying a strong reputation built across hundreds of visits from regulars who keep coming back. The menu goes well beyond the standard chippy fare, pairing generous serves of fresh fried or grilled fish with options like tabbouleh salad, which makes it a genuinely satisfying meal rather than a quick snack. The chips are a highlight in their own right, crispy on the outside and fluffy through the middle, and the grilled barramundi draws particular praise for its seasoning and freshness.
Burgers are taken seriously here too. Nick’s burgers are a firm favourite among regulars, fresh, stacked, and hot without being messy, and widely regarded as some of the best in the area. Potato cakes round out the classic side of the menu for those after something traditional alongside their fish. The kitchen handles both fried and grilled preparations well, with the grilled fish cooked through and seasoned rather than treated as an afterthought.
The shop is family friendly, with dine-in seating available including an outdoor area, plus takeaway and no-contact delivery for those eating at home. Beer, wine, and spirits are on offer, and on-site parking makes a sit-down visit easy. It’s open for lunch and dinner, and the casual atmosphere works equally well for a solo meal or a family outing.
For anyone hunting for fish and chips in South Yarra, Beluga Fish & Chippery is a shop with real staying power. Phone ahead during dinner to keep wait times short.

Fantastic! Love that they have salads and not just fish and chips. The chips were amazing — crispy outside and fluffy inside. The fried fish was similar, crispy outside and moist inside, and the grilled fish was seasoned well and cooked just enough. Would definitely return!
The best burger in town. Classic taste and good content. Would recommend to try.
Best fish and chips in town!
We tried the fish of the day with tabbouleh salad and chips. Generous portion and good quality of fish!
A great little fish and chips shop on Toorak road. We always drive past on the weekends and tonight we said we will try it out and well worth it!! Great quality food everything tastes delicious and left us full that’s for sure. Thanks guys will be back again for sure 👍🏽
Wow so fresh, highly recommend grilled barramundi and the potato cakes! Owner and cook are lovely good people. The fish beats most barramundis I’ve had at restaurants.
I have been visiting here for a number of years now and the food never EVER fails. One of the last remaining long term family run F&C businesses around. Nick is the best burger cook i have had, fresh stacked, hot and not messy. As important as the delicious food is the friendly service. I genuinely enjoy waiting for my food having a chat and enjoying a chilled beer in the process.
The chips were great, crispy and well flavored. However the fried fish (had king dory fish) was soggy on the outside. Asked the staff whether it is always soggy and the person just told me I left it out for too long (2-3 mins) so it became soggy. What a response going back to the customer.
Still an OK place to dine in for chips. Perhaps when you visit, they have improved the batter of the fried fish. Or pick the grilled fish.
This place used to be great. I can honestly say last night was the worst fish n chips we have ever had. The batter on the fish was soft, chewy and very eggy not a crisp in sight. We asked for extra crispy and at most the chips were just cooked. Absolutely terrible. I think it must be under new ownership as it’s certainly gone down hill, what a pity. If I could give zero I would
