About
Shark’s Tail Fish and Chippery is a casual fish and chip shop in Sunshine West serving up lunch and dinner to the local community. With dine-in, takeaway, and delivery all available, it suits everything from a quick solo meal to a relaxed family sit-down. Free on-site parking makes the visit easy, and the shop accepts reservations if you’d prefer to plan ahead.
The fish is a genuine draw here. Regulars consistently note the freshness of the fillets and the quality of the batter, which comes out golden rather than dark, a sign the oil is changed regularly. The chips earn similar praise for their crunch. Dim sims are another favourite on the menu, with the shop known for serving them well alongside its fish offerings.
What sets a real point of difference at Shark’s Tail is the approach to gluten-free dining. The kitchen uses a separate fryer for coeliac orders, highlights gluten-free items at preparation, and wraps them separately from other orders. The price difference for gluten-free options is modest compared to many competitors, and the menu carries a solid range of GF choices. Families with coeliac members regularly make the trip out to Sunshine West for exactly this reason.
The overall reputation here is decent, with a reasonable price point and service that draws genuine repeat visits. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to keep wait times short.

The gluten free fish flakes were delicious. This place provides plenty of gf options on the menu.
We use this fish & chip shop perhaps six times a year. Generally, the food is quite good. The chips are clean, suggesting regular changes of oil. They are golden & crunchy, but soft inside. The battered fish is of similar quality. Serving portions are reasonable. The souvlaki are a favourite, but not always within our budget. The hamburgers are also good, although becoming a rarer choice due to cost. The one item that always disappoints, is the spring roll. They are overcooked, very dark in colour, & way too crisp. Too hard to bite into without cutting inside the mouth. In fairness, it seems a common problem in fish & chip shops. No-one seems to know how to cook them. However, the one in my photo should never have been served to a paying customer. No more spring rolls for us!
The shop is one of several stores so has a car park with good parking. The staff are friendly & the service efficient.
Did you cook with old oil or did you refry our chips?!!! Ordered a medium chips with 6 fish bites. The fish bites were soggy and the chips were CRISPY OILY. Squeezed one chip and the oil dropped out. Gross! The after taste on the chips were not nice, pretty sure the oil is old.
The girl on the phone taking the order was nice.
Our favourite fish and chips, always super fresh and crunchy! Great for gluten free/coeliac friendly options, hey have a separate fryer and highlight your order when it’s gluten free ☺️ We love coming here, it’s our go to takeaway!!
Dont be fooled buy slightly cheaper places
The owner is great , hes a diving hobbyist fisherman and it shows the quality of fresh decent fish fillets is amazing
And oil is clearly regularly changed battery always golden. Not dark and old oil like a lot of places.
Best in town!
Generally wouldn’t eat from here as they are fairly pricey for the quality. Tonight will be the last time ,min chips “7.50 they arr the wort chips I’ve ever had. Fish thin as paper and didn’t even get our dim Sims that we paid for.
Very good.Parking is convenient, the price is reasonable, and the service is excellent. I highly recommend it.🌟
Excellent fish, chips & dimmies for coeliac friendly.
Very tasty, fresh, and gf not much extra $ compared to what other places are asking.
Ordered with gluten eating friend, and orders were wrapped separately and highlighted.
Definitely be back
