About
Traralgon Hot Spot is a popular fish and chip shop in Traralgon serving the Gippsland community across lunch and dinner, seven days a week. The menu covers the classics alongside a few surprises, and the $25 meal for two is a firm favourite with visitors and regulars alike. Flake is freshly cut in-house, and the potato cakes are homemade with noticeably thick slices of potato, which makes them a standout choice compared to many competitors in the region.
Beyond the standard fish and chips, the menu includes lamb and chicken souvlaki, pineapple fritters, a battered Mars bar, and the Hot Spot Burger, which delivers real value and flavour. The mixed seafood basket, featuring prawns, scallops, and other items from the fryer, is worth ordering if you’re in the mood for something a little more indulgent. Dim sims also feature in the meal deal.
The shop offers dine-in seating, outdoor seating, takeaway, and delivery, making it a flexible option for families. A kids’ menu is available, and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. Service can vary during busy periods, so phoning ahead for large orders or during the dinner rush is recommended.
For anyone passing through Traralgon or looking for fish and chips in the area, Hot Spot delivers solid, freshly prepared food at a reasonable price point. Check opening hours and menu details below.

INEDIBLE!!!!!! the fish was off, grey and dry. the chips were cold. and the potato cakes had practically no potato. the oil was so old and dark.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND the prawns (they’ve been marinated in garlic and the crumb coat is light and crunchy)!
We only got mixed seafood (prawns, scallop, crab stick) with onion rings. The scallops and crab stick were also surprisingly well done.
We would never give this a miss if we ever drive by Traralgon.
Absolutely disgusting. Size of food, taste disgusting, potato cakes are black. Pics attached
Do not spend money here it’s a waste
Took over an hour to deliver couldn’t even eat the flake was that soggy like mush wouldn’t even come off the cardboard
Food was hot and fresh.
We had the meal for 2 : $25
Flake was fresh and it was flake!
Potato cakes were ok, they had a reasonable slice of potato in them, thicker than most places these days.
Dim sims were nice.
Chips were good. I still don’t understand how they are colored yellow, but seems to be the case everywhere.
For $25 it was a good feed, flake and chips a little smaller than you might want but big enough.
Overall the food here is good and is one of the better places I’ve had food from Traralgon.
Stopped here randomly for lunch after walking around some of the local shops. Didn’t read any reviews prior, but glad I didn’t, as I was stunned to later see such a low overall score.
My wife and I both remarked these were the best fish and chips we have had in a very, very long time, perhaps ever. Prices are possibly on the higher side but that seems to be the case everywhere now days, and I couldn’t fault the quality of the food so was certainly worth every cent in my opinion!
Wow, incredible… That burger with the lot was the best value, best tasting and they got my modified order to perfection.
I’m glad I don’t live in Traralgon or I’d end up on my 600 pound life living near this place.
Absoulutely terrible I paid for a meal for 2 and it was the smallest meal of fish and chips I’ve had it didn’t even feed 1 person let alone 2 was dry measly amount disgusting never again..
