About
Off the Pier is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Williamstown, Victoria, drawing a loyal crowd alongside visitors to the area. With a solid four-plus star reputation across hundreds of reviews, the shop has built a strong name for fresh, carefully cooked seafood. The menu includes gummy flake, blue grenadier, fish cakes, South Melbourne-style fried dim sims, and chips, with calamari and prawns also drawing consistent praise for their freshness and light, non-greasy preparation.
Regulars note that the food arrives hot and crispy, with seasoning that hits the mark without overdoing it. The tartare sauce is a small but popular addition worth ordering. Prices sit at the higher end for a fish and chip shop, though most find them fair for the quality on offer. The shop also serves coffee, quick bites, and small plates, making it a comfortable stop across brunch, lunch, and dinner.
Dine-in, takeaway, and delivery are all available, and the venue is fully wheelchair accessible with outdoor seating and room for groups. A kids’ menu makes it a practical choice for families, and the shop accepts reservations, which is handy during busier periods. A park directly across from the shop provides a pleasant spot for those who prefer to eat outside with their takeaway.
Off the Pier serves the Williamstown area well, covering most occasions from a quick solo lunch to a relaxed meal with the family. Phone ahead during the dinner rush or check opening hours below before heading in.

BEST FISH AND CHIPS in the area. Fresh seafood. The scallops, calamari and prawns, so, so soo fresh!!! Not too oily and their food always perfectly cooked! Not overcooked, perfectly seasoned and crispy good.. this is our stop all the time whenever we’re im the area. Staff are always friendly!💯💯💯💯💯😊😋🍤🐟🍟
Great service and a very pleasant atmosphere. We went on a weekday and the food came out quickly, without any delays. Everything was delicious; personally, I would have added a touch more salt to the fish batter, but that’s just a matter of taste. They definitely deserve the full 5 stars.
I ordered fish n chips with salad and can for $24. All ingredients for the meal it’s absolutely fresh. Don’t forget to add the tartare sauce for $1.5, you will never regret that
Absolutely the best! Been coming for years and every single time everything is fantastic. Hot, crisp, fresh and tasty. They were extra amazing when our online order time had to be changed twice because we were stuck in traffic. Fortunately we were able to call early enough. Nonetheless they were amazing and our order was ready and perfect as every other time. We will be back again!
The food was great, pricey like everything else these days but good. We had fish and chips mainly. Fish was fresh and chips were crispy and didnt feel greasy. Battered sav was ok found it on the pricey side, potatoe cake was average and pricey.
Atmosphere wise, it’s not the cleanest place. Chairs were covered in bird poo as its open space and near the pier. Tables and chairs were also sticky. If you are looking for a place thats clean and has ambience this is not it. But, the food is worth going there for.
We’ve been here many times in the last ten years. The food used to be tasty and fresh. My favourite was the prawns and scallops. However, on our recent visit, the food was not good. The scallops and prawns were of smaller size and didn’t taste fresh. Callamari rings were overcooked. The fish was covered in a thin, tasteless batter.
This place is obviously popular with tourists and locals thanks to its location. The food quality has sadly dropped though.
Visited for takeaway on a Friday early evening. 15 min wait. Friendly service. Food tasty and not overly oily. Prices fair.
Pretty much as good as fish and chips get. Prices are a bit dear but that the way of the world. Beautiful park right across from the shop that has peir and city views. Bring a picnic blanket, get some goodies from here and relax on the grass before you grow old and get the bad news. Don’t forget to ask for extra chicken salt!
