About
The Great British Chippy brings a slice of traditional British seaside culture to Currambine, serving up the kind of hearty, no-fuss fish and chips that regulars describe as a proper chippy experience. The menu leans into the classics, with hand-cut chips cooked in traditional fryers, sustainably sourced fish from Iceland, battered sausage, mushy peas, and curry sauce all on offer. Meat pies and burgers round out the selection for anyone after something different.
The shop has built a solid reputation across more than 500 reviews, and a few themes keep coming up: generous portions, crispy batter, and staff who are genuinely friendly and attentive. The gluten-free options are handled with care, with no cross-contamination, which makes this a rare find for Currambine residents with dietary needs. The fisherman’s basket is a firm favourite, and the English-style chips have a loyal following of their own.
Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and the venue suits families well, with a kids’ menu, group dining, and full wheelchair-accessible facilities including car park, entrance, and seating. Free parking is available on-site and on the street. The shop accepts card and contactless payments, and catering and dessert options are listed for those planning ahead.
For anyone in the northern suburbs of Perth looking for a fish and chip shop that does things the old-fashioned way, this one is worth checking out. Phone ahead for larger orders during the dinner rush.

A taste of home, this place is a proper chippy, with proper portions.
Me and my brother-in-law decided he was gonna treat us to good food, we had a fairly big order for 4 adults. The staff where polite, and very hard working, we had maybe a 15 minute wait which I thought was a good time for a such a busy place. The order was correct and fresh. My partner was super happy with the piece of fish and taste of it. The Haggis was good. The burger was a little greasy but had good flavour. And the sausage and chips was perfect.
Overall the young girl that served us was efficient and polite, the food came in good time and was all fresh, and it was reasonable priced for the amount we got.
If your in the joondalup, currambine area definitely get yourself into The British Chippy, and if you live a further a field then they have you covered too, they have a eating in area to sit down and enjoy the great food.
Should’ve left based on the fact the was no one in the shop on a Sunday afternoon.
Women sitting in the corner yelling to her staff to serve the front. Fair enough you’re on your break but maybe stay out of site coz that is coming off rude.
Food was absolutely rubbish and overpriced. Fish cake is not a proper British fish cake. Almost like they’d used the scraps and deep fried it with potato. Impressive to have it soggy and burnt all at the same time!
Aussie crispy chips, not crispy. Or cooked.
Young girl working there is only thing going for this place very polite. Will give credit where it’s due.
Last time we dined in but, purchased the fisherman’s basket and ate at home grilled fish cooked to a delite, chips tasty English style stuck to paper base not a problem. The prawns 3 1/2 prawn and I had the half because I dished out the food.
Been going there for years and the food has gone down hill big time since he has opened other shops around Perth. They have no problem charging you full price for a piece of fish or a sausage that has been sitting under a light for the last hour instead of cooking a fresh piece.
I love this place! Very nice staff, amazing food! Gluten free available. No cross contamination. It has been my favourite fish and chips place for years now. Would recommend to everyone!
Go spend your hard earn $ somewhere else …
bloody slow and average !
8 staff on and 90 minutes later we get our 5 burgers !
it’s a chippy ….takeaway and if it takes you 90 minutes for 5 burgers….pack up !
” sorry for the delay….. Simply not good enough “
Really disappointed at our meals tonight. They chips were burnt, no chicken salt even though requested. The kids nuggets were also burnt and inedible. And the fish!! The fish tasted days old and I now have a very ill tummy. No one finished their meals and for $80, I absolutely do not recommend.
Great fish and chips! Crispy, fresh, and really tasty. But what made the experience stand out was Meg’s amazing customer service. She was so friendly, welcoming, and attentive, and you can tell she genuinely cares about customers.
I’ll definitely be back, and a big thank you to Meg for making my visit so enjoyable!
