About
Mount Hawthorn Fish and Chips is a well-regarded fish and chip shop serving the inner northern suburbs of Perth, with a solid following built on generous portions and friendly service. The signature dish is battered snapper and chips, and the snapper fillet is noted for its crunchy batter and large, satisfying flakes. The menu also includes squid rings, chiko rolls, and crab stick, covering the classic range that regulars expect from a good neighbourhood shop.
The shop is open for lunch and dinner, with dine-in seating available on a mezzanine level, takeaway, and delivery through Uber Eats. The upstairs seating area adds a bit more occasion to a meal, and the table condiments, an array of salts and vinegar, are a small detail that regulars appreciate. Pricing is considered fair, with value-driven meal options that keep bringing people back. Service is friendly and attentive, which makes a difference during busier periods.
Families are well catered for, with kids’ menu options available. The shop accepts reservations, which is handy when dining in during peak meal times. Chips have drawn mixed opinions over time, with some finding them crisp and others wanting a bit more seasoning, so it may be worth asking for them fresh. The battered fish, though, is consistently praised and draws people from well outside the immediate Mount Hawthorn area.

Edit 2023: I have been away for a year. The price has slightly increased. And the quality is just as excellent. Top marks.
One very happy Englishman. New to the area and first time trying out the $10 fish and chip offer. I will definitely be back. Massive portion size. Expertly cooked battered fish. And tasty (real) chips. Highly recommended.
Enjoyed fish & chips, decent single serve. Just needed a wedge of lemon. Tasty, fresh and convenient, friendly staff and open til 8:30pm. Usual fish & chip special is $12.50 for battered, can pay extra for crumb or grilled. Would recommend
Excellent value at $12.5 with large serving size. Batter and fries crisp. Dining in greatly added value with an array of salts and vinegar
Ordered a piece of shark. Usually the guys are really good but when I got home and took a bite of the fish I knew it wasn’t shark very disappointing considering you pay $19 for a piece of shark and end up with hoki. Hopefully this is a one off but won’t be going back any time soon 😪
I strongly recommend this place, I especially rate their customer service as a young boy by the name of Harry was taking my order, he was a very helpful young man and made sure that we were satisfied, the only bad thing was when we were eating our chips he came out and grabbed a chip so this might need some action required. Overall recommend this place it was very tasty and good customer service
Twice I’ve been here and experienced the stunning fish and chips on offer and twice it’s been too good to take a photo of.
The first time I had fasted all morning and then drove my order 25 mins away and it was still absolutely beautiful.
The 2nd time we ate in the mezz, crunchy batterr, huge flakes of fish(snapper) a decent serving of chips (one serve to share) and I sampled the crab stick and squidrings, which were both tender and delish!
Absolutely no fault either time, great pricing, timing and food.
And the fact they are open for lunch is such a bonus!
Fish was alright, cooked well, served hot. Chips were a little dry and bland. Thanks to Dylan for being so sweet with us, need more employees like him.
Had by far the best fish and chips I’ve had for a while.
Barramundi and chips cooked to perfection.
Dylan and the staff were quick and efficient.
Definitely coming back and dining in again.
