About
Off the Hook Fish N Chips is a women-owned takeaway serving Port Kennedy and the surrounding Rockingham area. The menu covers a solid range of fresh fish options including snapper, barramundi, shark, and squid, with snapper and chips being the shop’s signature. Prawns and calamari also feature, giving the menu plenty of variety for a suburban fish and chip shop.
Snapper and chips is well priced and draws regulars back consistently, with many noting the quality of the fish and the chip serve. Some long-time visitors have flagged that portion sizes shifted after late 2024, so keep that in mind if you’ve been before and have expectations set. The fish bites thrown in as an extra touch are a small detail that regulars seem to appreciate.
The shop is family-friendly with a kids menu, and the setup suits both a quick takeaway run and a casual sit-down meal. Delivery is available including no-contact options, which adds convenience for those closer to home. Card and mobile payments are accepted. The venue has wheelchair-accessible parking and entry, making it easy for everyone to visit.
Off the Hook has earned a strong local reputation across a decent number of reviews, a reasonable result for a small local business in Port Kennedy. Open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday. Phone ahead during busy periods to keep wait times short.

Don’t usually review things but Ive become a regular here and I wanted to share that it Feels like I’m back home in NZ!
Best Fish and chip shop in WA! Do it – you won’t regret it. Top Quality 🙌🏽 so good I Always end up eating in my car lol (the burger in the pic is a works burger).
Change of ownership and the quality seems to have dropped and the serving sizes far too small for the price. Won’t be returning after years of patronage
Snapper was tiny and dry, About half of what you’d expect and served with a literal one hands worth of chips that were soggy and cold from being placed in a small cardboard container instead of paper.
Not good value sadly.
Talk about taking something that was perfect and completely nose diving it. Unaware the girls had left we ordered the usual and when the wife brought it home i thought she had gone to a local deli. I genuinely thought they had stuffed our order up. I called up and asked if there was a mix up and I was assured that it was correct as the price of potatoes had apparently risen….. Over night apparently! I won’t say everything i think here but some people should just stick to what there good at and not DRIVE good bussiness into the deck.. u may still get bussiness but it will be out of convenience not out of choice..
Went there a week ago, been a few times but no never again. Just wasn’t the same got enough for five people just opened up and it looked like one big mess. No thought or love like before. So now have to find a good fish and chip shop.
I wish I could give this place less than 1 star. DO NOT BOTHER BUYING FROM HERE ANYMORE! They had a change of ownership and the quality, quantity and overall taste of the fish and chips has drastically declined. The fish was tiny and dry, yet the batter was super oily which made no sense. The chips were so overcooked and dry and the scallops were swimming in oil in the box. You can taste the oil is old and hadn’t been changed in days, this is also reflected in the colour of the batter once cooked. I can’t believe how small the portion is too, the box was half empty! How can this be a standard size of chips!? It’s just a tiny handful. Absolute joke!
The new owners should be ashamed of the food they are providing. Save yourself the hassle and find another place to order because this isn’t worth your time.
After eating here on Friday, I am highly disappointed. I agree completely with all the comments about the serving size. I saw one in particular from the owner saying that the customers who want the original serving sizes are “greedy” which was highly unprofessional. This store used to be filled with love which was clearly reflected in the quality and taste of the food. Sadly, this is no longer the case. I don’t understand how portion sizes can change so much. The price has gone up (which I understand why), but serving sizes are going down somehow every time I come. I always get a large chips for my family of 4, which is now not enough when I used to have left overs. The times I have gone since December have significantly smaller serving sizes, which was nowhere near enough. I did intend on speaking to the store manager on my next visit, however after viewing recent comments it is clear the owners seem to be quite confrontational on any negative feedback.
It is sad I have to finally end the Friday Fish and chip tradition for my family at this store.
Good fish and chips with good value, 16.50 for snapper and chips. People in these reviews need to grow up and stop being blatantly racist. These people can barely spell which clearly outlines their intellect, hating on a small business owner purely based on nationality is racism.
The Fish and Chips are nice! I see a lot of bad reviews but i dont think of it. Quantity is ok since there are now containers compared to just being wrapped in paper and good quality chips. They even threw in some fish bites in there which my kids enjoyed! I actually thought this place closed down but looks like change of ownership which is still good for the locality. Good stuff! Keep it up!
