About
Brian’s Fish Bar in Shelley is one of those genuinely unusual finds, a fish and chip shop that has quietly built a strong reputation by doing two things very well. The classic battered fish and generous chip serves keep the traditionalists happy, while a solid lineup of South Indian dishes draws a completely different crowd. The result is a menu that covers a lot of ground without cutting corners on either side.
The fish and chips side of things delivers what regulars are after, well-cooked fish in portions that don’t disappoint, alongside chips that earn their own praise. For families, it’s a practical choice, with younger diners sorted on the fish and chips while adults explore the Indian menu. The shop is family-friendly, open for lunch and dinner, and takes care of dine-in, takeaway, and delivery.
The Indian offerings are where Brian’s Fish Bar in Shelley really draws attention from food lovers beyond the neighbourhood. Masala dosa with crispy edges and soft idli served with chutney have earned genuine admiration. The chicken and vegetable biryani is flavourful with tender meat, and the goat curry, Gobi Manchurian, garlic naan, and onion bhaji round out a menu that takes its South Indian roots seriously. One thing worth knowing is that the Indian dishes typically become available an hour or so after opening, so planning around that makes the experience smoother.
Staff are consistently described as friendly, and the venue is wheelchair accessible with free parking on site. Phone ahead during the dinner rush or book a table if you’re bringing the whole family.

Best place to order something spicy for the parents and a fantastic fish and chips for the kids. Generous fish portions, always cooked to perfection. Great chips and heaps on offer if you like a mixture of other things with your fish and chips.
Fantastic blend of traditional fish and chips as well as spicy Indian dishes. Their – San is to die for … best outside of Chandigarh! 😀
A quirky thing to know is that their Indian dishes become available only an hour after the shop opens. I guess that proves that their Indian dishes are freshly cooked. Eat some fish and chips while you wait, if you’re super hungry.😉
Has some great fish and chips here with my wife and in-laws.
Ordered 4 grilled fish, $5 worth of chips & 2 crab sticks. It was $83!
The fish was minimal & dry. The $5 chips was the same size as my friends $3 chips and the crab sticks were missing. Plus when I arrived at the pick up time, I still had to wait another 15 mins for it to be cooked. Our friends that also ordered said their battered fish was no better and they paid nearly $60 for only 3 serves and $3 worth of chips.
There’s better places in the area that we will go to next time.
$40 buys you so little it’s amazing that this place still operates. If you go here be prepared to take out a second mortgage and have some back up food at home as the portions are pretty average.
3 small pieces of snapper was $20!! The potato scallops were a thick slab of potato battered and deep fried, ugh. The 2 pineapple fritters were thin and soggy.
I gave one star because the place was clean. Can’t recommend.
The picture shows $40 worth of food.
Ordered 2 portions of fish and chips for $14:95 for one. They pack both in one and quantity was too little. It can only feed for little kid. $30 spend on there is wastage. Don’t recommend this shop.
“I had a great experience at Brian’s Fish Bar! The idli was soft, and the dosa was crispy, just the way I like it. Both tasted amazing with the chutneys. The chicken biryani was full of flavor and the chicken was tender. The food portions were good, and the staff were friendly. I would definitely recommend this place for tasty idli, dosa, butter chicken, naan and biryani!”
The food is great although I have no clue who Brian is,
People behind the counter are super friendly every time 10/10 thank you for the chips <3
