About
Gone Fishin’ Fish & Chips is a well-regarded takeaway in Sunset Beach, Western Australia, drawing a loyal crowd from the local area as well as visitors passing through the Geraldton region. With over 300 ratings and a solid four-plus-star reputation, it has earned a reputation for quality that keeps people coming back, some from quite a distance.
The seafood is the clear draw here. Prawns and scallops are notably fresh, and the calamari features regularly in positive mentions alongside hake. Portion sizes are a recurring theme too, with chips in particular described as remarkably generous. The seafood baskets represent solid value, with the smaller option reportedly enough for two people. The batter has been praised by many as close to perfect, which is no small claim for a fish and chip shop.
It is worth noting that opening hours are reported as limited, so planning ahead is a good idea, especially during the dinner rush when queues are common. The shop is family friendly with a kids’ menu available, and the venue is wheelchair accessible with free on-site parking. Ordering is quick once you are at the counter, and card and mobile payments are accepted for convenience.
For anyone near Sunset Beach or visiting the Geraldton area and looking for a reliable fish and chip shop, Gone Fishin’ is well worth checking out. Phone ahead or check current opening hours before making the trip.

Super fresh and large prawns and scallops! Great crabstick. Chips were pretty average, and batter on fish, squid rings etc was indeed very thick. The $25 seafood basket was enough for 2 people, so I imagine the $47 “seafood basket for two” is probably enough for 4 people. Overall would recommend.
Got 2 x Hake, 6 calamari and $4 of chips. Got told $4 of chips would feed 2 people…. well I’m pretty sure it will feed a whole family 😅 thanks for the generous++ portion of chips and delicious seafood. Highly recommend. And served with a welcoming smile.
Best fish and chips in geraldton. Portion sizes are amazing and taste great.
Food was delicious, service was good, noisy inside.
Lesser rating is for the small portion size of the fish. Photo is our order of 2x serves of snapper and $4 chips.
Two visitors to geraldton ..and local family member sensational and top notch.. good price
Disappointing experience. It genuinely seemed as though the fish we were served had been defrosted during the power outage the day before — the smell was overwhelming and filled the house once we got the takeaway home. When we raised the issue, there was no apology or acknowledgement from the adults serving, which made the experience even worse.
We’ve been regular customers over the years, but the portion sizes are noticeably getting smaller each visit.
The only positive was the teenage boys working behind the counter, who were polite and helpful. Unfortunately, there are plenty of better fish and chip options around, and we won’t be returning.
Amazingly good. I don’t reallylike fish and chips, I rarely write reviews but this is the nicest fish and chips I’ve had in like 20 years! The batter is perfection, I only gave lower star to service as their opening hours are so limited! A little later especially in summer would be awesome.
Excellent fish & chips. The best I’ve had in a long time. Perfect batter. Massive portions would come again all the way from the UK😜 great takeaway.
