About
Seafood on Oaks has built a solid reputation as one of the better fish and chip shops on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, drawing regulars and first-timers alike to its spot in Dee Why. The hand-cut chips are a genuine point of difference. Peeled and prepared on-site from whole potatoes rather than frozen product, they come out fluffy in the middle with just the right amount of crispness, and sit closer to a proper British-style chip than most places in Sydney manage. Seasoned with chicken salt and paired with homemade tartare sauce, they pair naturally with the shop’s golden battered fish.
Fish options include hake, barramundi, flathead, and calamari, available either battered or grilled. The Fisherman’s Basket is a popular choice for those who want variety, and Family Fish & Chips meals make it a practical stop for groups. Calamari regularly draws praise for its freshness, and the battered fish fillet is noted for clean-tasting oil and a well-seasoned, crisp coating. Everything is cooked fresh to order.
The dining room is kept spotlessly clean with comfortable seating, and service moves at a good pace without feeling rushed. Music plays at a moderate volume. Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and a kids’ menu makes the place well-suited for families. Street parking is nearby and the shop is close to public transport on Dee Why’s main strip. Open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner.
Phone ahead during the dinner rush to keep wait times short.

Worth stopping in DeeWhy for a quick, simple lunch-time special: a generous serving of fried fish and chips with a choice of salad ( see photos for salads).
It’s near the B Bus stop at DeeWhy. Every time I’ve eaten there the fish has been cooked to perfection – there is an excellent selection of seafood for sale. And the fish tastes so good, and there is no strong fishy smell, so it must be fresh.
Overall a good experience, I would personally prefer more flavour from the options that I have purchased. However thats because of my high standards of Fish and chips.
The place was clean and well maintained and the service was great can’t fault them for that.
Very close 5 star but didn’t hit my expectations of amazing fish and chips.
Absolutely delicious calamari and chips! Super fresh. We will be back next time we are in the Dee Why area! 😋
The reviews is what brought me here and it definitely didn’t disappoint
Must try seafood shop when in the northern beaches
The best chips in Sydney. Hands down. If you are looking for chips similar to British chips – this is the closest you can get in Sydney. Hand peeled onsite from real potatoes, not frozen. Soft and slightly crispy and fluffy inside. They are the perfect chip.
Vivek the owner is exceptionally friendly. The shop is spotless. Every table was clean and had nice comfy chairs. Great music playing. Not too loud. Easy parking in nearby Woolies underground car park or by post office. Close to bus stop.
Ramp at front if you are coming in with a pram / trolley / wheelchair. Toilets across road.
Ordered in store and online, and every time it’s been a winner.
Dee Why’s hidden gem. If you want the freshest, tastiest fish and chips in Sydney you must go.
I came here bc of the reviews and it did not disappoint. Hands down one of the best fish and chips in my life. Battered correctly, golden crisp and the oil tasted fresh. Seasoned well with chicken salt and the tartare was homemade, little coconut kick was beautiful. Owner was kind and server was friendly and fast. Such a great experience and beautiful tasting fish, chips, calamari and snack pack!! Please come try it, you won’t regret it
