About
Seafood Market @ Caloundra is a well-known seafood destination on the Sunshine Coast, operating as both a fish market and a casual dining venue open seven days for lunch and dinner. The setup is a bit different from a typical fish and chip shop: alongside the fryers and grills, there’s a market counter where fresh product is sold straight from local trawlers. That dual nature gives the menu a broader range than most, covering freshly cooked fish, seafood packs, meal deals, snacks, sides and salads, a build-your-own burger section, a chargrill menu, and an oyster bar.
The snapper draws particular praise from regulars, with some rating it among the best on the Sunshine Coast. Chips are noted for coming out crunchy and well-cooked. The choice of seafood and salads is a strong point, and the sheer variety tends to impress first-time visitors. Takeaway is popular, with many people collecting orders and heading somewhere nearby to eat. Dine-in is available with outdoor seating, and the venue is wheelchair accessible and family friendly, with a kids’ menu and free on-site parking.
It’s fair to note that reviews are mixed. While many visits are genuinely positive, some recent visitors have raised concerns about consistency in fish quality and pricing. The experience can vary, so ordering popular items like the snapper tends to produce better results than more perishable options.
For anyone exploring Caloundra’s seafood scene, this is one of the more substantial operations in the area. Phone ahead for larger orders or during busy dinner service.

We got the family pack for $60 and extra seafood sticks and potato scallops for $25. Definitely heaps to feed 4 people with leftovers. Chips were fresh and hot, fish was delicious. Calamari was okay, just a bit tasteless. The food is pretty decent heated up the next day.
Went at about 7:30pm on a Friday night and wait time was only 10 minutes.
Service could have been better, no eye contact was made at all during ordering.
We have been in search of good fish and chip shop closer to home since moving to The Sunshine Coast. This place was referred to us by the shop assistant over at the shopping centre. The choice was huge with all the seafood and salads, and even alcoholic beverages, which we have never seen anywhere in Victoria, which was surprising to encounter. Will definitely be making this place a regular.
Perhaps we should not have arrived a half an hour before closing time. However. The chips were revolting and cold, the scallops burnt and the fish undercooked. $60 dollars poorly spent. The delightful web page expressed a seafood symphony of various awesome meals. You could smell the grilled prawns and imagine crunching some beautifully cooked hot chips. Nope. In reality you have a group of teenagers running a store the only way they know how. Furthermore they owe me a tartare sauce as I did not receive it in my order but they can keep it. Just chunderous.
If I could give no star I would
The fish we asked for grilled cod ended up with a ordinary dry white flavourless steamed yuk that pepper and salt you see I buried it in it to get some flavor
The squid rings were very ordinary,
For the price and cooking won’t ever be back ever
Food and service is always awesome. The place is looking pretty tired and needs a refresh. Recommend takeaway and sitting by the water.
I recently visited a seafood market in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast and was genuinely impressed by the quality and freshness of the seafood. What sets this place apart is that they sell fresh fish as a market as well as operate as a restaurant, so you can see the quality of the produce firsthand. The barramundi was outstanding—firm, clean-tasting, and clearly very fresh. The snapper was equally impressive, with bright flesh and excellent quality. The calamari was a highlight as well: tender, not rubbery, and cooked perfectly. Overall, the standard of the seafood truly reflects the Sunshine Coast’s reputation for excellent local produce. If you are looking for genuinely fresh fish in Caloundra, whether to take home or enjoy cooked on-site, this seafood market is well worth a visit.
The best snapper on the coast ~ Absolutely delicious 5. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
We picked up some takeaway snapper and chips tonight and it was so fresh and delicious. The snapper you could taste the freshness and chips were lovely crunchy cooked to perfection. A delicious light batter on the fish. We could not fault and a generous amount of lemon.
Thank you!!!
We chose to takeaway as a special treat while on holiday with my elderly parents, who had really been looking forward to enjoying classic fish and chips by the coast. Sadly, the experience was extremely disappointing.
The whiting was tiny and so badly overcooked that it was dry, tough, and inedible. It was genuinely upsetting to see my parents, who rarely get away and were excited about this meal, struggle through something that should have been simple and enjoyable. For what is marketed as a seafood destination, the quality of the fish was well below expectations.
The salads were quite small in portion size, though they were fine in taste. On a positive note, the salmon was cooked rare exactly as requested, which we appreciated.
Overall, what was meant to be a lovely holiday meal turned into a very underwhelming and disappointing experience. We left feeling let down, particularly given this was a rare and special outing for my parents.
