About
Coolum Seafood is a fish and chip shop on the Sunshine Coast serving the Coolum Beach community with dine-in, takeaway, and delivery options. The menu centres on seafood staples, with battered snapper the signature dish and grilled barramundi another regular order for those after something a little different.
The venue is family-friendly, with a kids’ menu and high chairs available, plus outdoor seating for those eating in. Wheelchair access and free parking add to the convenience, and the licensed premises means adults can pair a meal with a beer or glass of wine.
Feedback on the food is mixed. The battered snapper draws consistent praise from those who visit on a good day, with some reporting fresh fish and solid portions. Chips, however, attract divided opinion, with comments ranging from generously sized serves to soggy or underseasoned results. Fish quality and portion consistency appear to vary depending on the visit, and the shop can get very busy at peak times, with waits stretching to half an hour on busy lunch and dinner sittings. Service experiences have also varied among regulars.
For those set on fish and chips near Coolum Beach, it pays to visit during quieter periods and phone ahead to gauge wait times. Counter service runs across lunch and dinner hours.

Probably the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Wouldn’t even rate one star.
On a fairly busy Friday lunch, we ordered two of the fish and chip specials. At most shops, this would mean a decent piece of fish and a single serve of chips. The staff member said it wouldn’t take long, now I know why.
The “fish” was three tiny pieces per pack, each the size and width of a pen, mostly batter with barely any fish (if you can even call it fish). The actual fish inside was not even 1 cm by 1 cm, tasteless, and completely lost in floury batter. The chips were average at best.
Overall, this felt misleading and poor value for money, more like “batter bites” than fish and chips. I left feeling disappointed and wishing I had complained on the spot and asked for my $30 for two back. I definitely won’t be returning and hope other take note. Had looked at the reviews and should have listened to what others said.
These chips were a crime against potatoes. Soggy, limp, and drowning in oil like they’d been rescued from the Titanic. Not a single crunch — just sadness in stick form. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were cooked last week and reheated under a desk lamp. Honestly, I’d have more flavour licking a car tyre. Whoever made these owes me an apology and a refund for the emotional damage
Worst experience at a fish and chips shop unfortunately. I’ve been here before and happy with the service, and food but the prices today felt quite unreasonable for the portions.
Service was rude and short, and the portion sizes were not it. Paid $30 for a 1 person fisherman’s basket and the amount of fish and chips, felt very small. I got charged double for sauce when asking to swap the Tartare for Tomato sauce, and all our chips had little to no salt, despite asking politely for extra chicken salt.
On top of this my partner got a small chips with his food and when we saw it was barley a small handful of chips, and addressed this to one of the kitchen workers, he said a firm “that’s a small, that’s what you get. No changes.”, and unfortunately we will not be returning here anymore. Very disappointing experience and would recommend the sandwich shop a few shops down.
The Coolum Seafood was a great idea and for the most part good food. After finding a parking spot 15 minutes walk away, there was a line of twenty people, then a wait of 25-30 minutes wait for the food. Would i do it again? Yes, but only if i was already at the surrounding area, parked and staying for the day, food was not that great its worth the trouble.
Ordered 2 buckets of the Fisherman’s Deal but was only given one. I didn’t notice at the counter as I was in a rush, and after driving 20 minutes I realised my order was missing items.
When I called, they admitted the mistake but still insisted I drive back for a refund. They refused to refund over the phone, which is unreasonable when the error was theirs.
To make things worse, they charged an extra 15% for a public holiday, yet couldn’t even serve the correct order.
The food quality was terrible. The so-called “chips” were miserable — I wouldn’t even call them chips. Even if they had given me the full order, it wouldn’t have mattered. In the end, everything went straight into the garbage.
Very disappointing service and food. Won’t be coming back.
Had a lovely lunch at Coolum Seafood. Best battered snapper I have had in a long time – along with sweet potato fries and a salad. Very nicely presented.. The seating area is shady and breezy. Perfect for enjoying lunch along with a glass of bubbly. Yes it is licensed! My new favourite restaurant on the Sunshine Coast.
Daylight robbery at this local fish and chip shop. A medium chips is the equivalent to a single serving! $40 for a piece of fish, ‘medium’ (smaller than small) chips and 2 small soft drinks!! Won’t be returning and don’t recommend families visit this shop if they all want to feel full after their meal.
Just visiting area was a long day and it was about 2:00pm we hadn’t eaten all day . So went in nearly had a heart attack at the price but we were hungry . My partner wanted fisherman’s basket &34.50. chips were not good calamari wasn’t rings it was in little bits and very bland . Seafood bites bland as well. Fish was not fresh and bland. My daughter and myself got a fish burger $13.50 each , again not much taste and it was actually the boxed frozen fish like you get out of the freezer supermarkets . Totally dissatisfied
