About
The Captain’s Daughter is a casual fish and chip shop in Peregian Beach, Queensland, drawing a steady crowd of families, locals, and visitors who come back for the food as much as the relaxed atmosphere. The venue holds a solid four-plus star reputation across nearly 600 reviews, a reliable signal for anyone searching for quality fish and chips on the Sunshine Coast.
The signature cod and chips is the dish regulars talk about most. The crumbed cod in particular has earned a strong following, with the batter consistently described as crispy and the fish fresh. Calamari is another favourite, well-priced for the portion size, and the kitchen handles gluten-free orders with care. Tempura fish also features on the menu, along with a kids’ menu that makes The Captain’s Daughter a natural choice for families.
The venue leans firmly into the casual dining side of things. Dine-in and takeaway are both available, with outdoor seating on offer for those who want to spread out. The bar stocks beer and cocktails, including alcoholic ginger beer on tap, which adds a little something beyond the standard fish shop experience. Dogs are welcome too, a small but appreciated detail for anyone walking through Peregian Beach with a four-legged companion. Service is noted for being friendly and quick, and prices sit at a reasonable level across the menu.
The Captain’s Daughter opens for lunch and dinner and suits a wide range of diners, from solo lunches to family meals. Phone ahead during busy periods to keep things moving.

Stopped in for lunch. They open at 11:30am on a Saturday. Calamari was very tasty and decently priced for the portion sizes. The chips were crunchy and good and the chicken and bacon burger was delicious. The alcoholic ginger beer on tap was just what was needed in a hot day. Would recommend.
No frills pub with fresh & hot food. We enjoyed the Kraken salad which almost had more calamari than salad & the Captain’s Catch basket. House-made potato scallops ($2 ea) were great! Servings were generous. Great place to stop for a break after the beach.
Today is the second time in a month we’ve bought fish and chips from The Captain’s Daughter. I’m usually a ‘barramundi snob’ but the crumbed cod on both occasions has been exceptional. Add the friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, easy parking, generous serving, and competitive pricing and it’s easy to see why this establishment is so popular with the locals. A great find and totally recommended.
I mean if you come here expecting fine dining, you are in for a shock, that’s not the venue’s vibe at all!
But if you want casual conversation and relaxed dining with some yummy food and local beverages, then you’re in for a treat !
My barramundi burger was cooked to perfection, and the fillet was light and tasty, even though it had been dipped in a beer batter.
And my glass of Prosecco was everything you could ask for on a warm spring day – dry and aromatic with notes of dried apricot and rockmelon – delicious!
Great place to spend a relaxing afternoon either solo or with fronds and the background music had a please house vibe, without overpowering the cost atmosphere.

Pro tip – come between lunch and dinner when it’s not too busy!
Nothing like a deceptive menu to ruin an afternoon.
Ordered from the takeaway section (not dine in) where their menu is on the wall (photo attached)
Unlike every other takeaway in the southern hemisphere where the ‘Spring Rolls’ are vegetarian unless otherwise noted, the Captains Daughter decided to add fish to theirs (photo attached) and did not think it was worthwhile to mention to anyone perusing the menu.
Here’s the kicker – I’m allergic to fish.
After consuming one bite of the $11 spring rolls, the sneaky addition was discovered and the rest of the afternoon was spent having an allergic reaction with all the trimmings.
Outside of the misleading menu, the calamari was soggy, the kids chicken tenders overcooked and the potato scallops swimming in oil.
Avoid.
Fabulous lunch at The Captain’s Daughter today. The gluten free options are divine. The Kraken Salad was fresh, light and delicious. Calamari and tempura fish were cooked perfectly. The staff were friendly, welcoming and very accommodating. Dog friendly and our dog absolutely loved her time there. The staff love dogs and our dog loved the staff. We will definitely be back again.
Reasonable prices and very good food — we loved it 😊♥️
As a family, we really enjoyed the meal. They have the best fish and chips, along with great side dishes and fresh salads. The food was absolutely excellent!
As gluten free / coeliac, this place was a standout. Gluten-free chips and fish tacos were handled perfectly — the chips were crisp and some of the best I’ve had in a long time, and the tacos were fresh, light, and full of flavour.
Service, atmosphere, and location were all 10/10.
Will definitely be back. Highly recommended.
