About
Hamilton Take Away is a well-regarded fish and chip shop serving the Hamilton and Ascot area of Queensland, with a solid four-plus star reputation built across hundreds of visits. The shop operates for both lunch and dinner, offering dine-in and takeaway options to suit whatever suits the moment. Free street parking nearby makes it a convenient stop for locals and visitors alike.
The food is the real draw here. Regulars consistently note that the fish is light and fluffy rather than heavy or greasy, with batter that doesn’t sit in the stomach long after the meal. Chips arrive well-seasoned, and the seafood is described as genuinely fresh. It’s the kind of place where the quality holds up visit after visit, not just on a good day. The menu includes fresh fish options alongside a broader seafood selection that keeps people coming back regularly.
Service is friendly and efficient. Takeaway orders turn around quickly, which suits the casual, no-fuss style of the place. The owners are known for being welcoming, and there’s a family-friendly atmosphere that makes it a comfortable choice for a range of diners, from solo lunches through to meals with kids in tow. Wheelchair-accessible entry and seating mean the venue is easy to get into for everyone.
Hamilton Take Away has earned a loyal following in the area, with some regulars making it their regular spot for years. For anyone in the Hamilton or Ascot area looking for a reliable fish and chips experience, it’s well worth checking out. See opening hours and menu details below.

First time and last time I will buy from here. I bought a piece of snapper fish $11.50, the fish was old, dry and frozen fish not fresh. The batter was oily and hard and over cooked as you can see here on both the fish and potato scallops.
I DON’T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!! 😡😡
Great pub one of three operating until the wee hours of the morning in the Toowoomba CBD
It certainly had great atmosphere as folk come in from near and far for a night out and let off steam! The among the clientele are grazers ,miners ,army officers office workers tradies fly in fly out workers and folk hoping for a jolly good night out
While there’s the huge area out the back there’s a variety of smaller intimate spaces at the front
Don’t be put off by the security guarding the front door because definitely you will have a good time once you arrive
Stayed in the hotel across the street, so decided to go here for a quick dinner. Ordered the Cod, chips and salad pack and a seafood stick. Would have to say, this is the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Fish was fresh and cooked perfectly and was not oily at all. Chips were the best I’ve had too. Staff were also friendly.
Top pick for Fish and Chips in Hamilton. Delicious without leaving you feeling super heavy. Ordered from here multiple times and the meals are never greasy/oily. Fish is light and fluffy and the chips are salted just enough and super crispy.
Dine in is very casual however the establishment is pretty clean.
The seafood basket is generously sized!
They crumb the fish themselves. Didn’t ask which salt, chips a bit under.done for me. Fish was nice. Place needs a good clean.
Excellent fresh seafood. Nice friendly owners. Have eaten there a lot & always had great food.
I have been coming here for about 7 years honestly always great food and friendly people. Take away is best, quick turn around with food
First time using, rude Asian lady took order (nothing racist, she was a lady & was Asian, facts) food was very poor quality, products on food board not available, very greasy. Definitely don’t recommend & will not use again. Terrible.
