About
Carraway Pier is one of Kelvin Grove’s most talked-about fish and chip shops, earning a strong reputation across more than two hundred reviews. Tucked into the inner city, it draws a steady crowd for both quick takeaway meals and relaxed sit-down sessions, with dine-in, takeaway, and delivery all on offer. Free parking, wheelchair accessibility throughout, and a welcoming atmosphere make it an easy choice for families, groups, and anyone passing through Brisbane’s inner north.
The food is the clear drawcard. Sea perch battered fish is a highlight, noted for being fresh, tender, and genuinely crunchy. The chips are consistently well-executed, medium fried with a crisp exterior and soft centre, and the calamari rounds out a solid seafood spread. The chicken burger also gets a regular mention for its balance of flavours. Regulars and first-timers alike remark on generous serves and fair pricing, which makes the quality feel even more satisfying.
Service at Carraway Pier is warm and attentive, with the casual atmosphere sitting comfortably between a neighbourhood local and a proper sit-down restaurant. Alcohol and beer are available on-site, reservations are accepted, and the venue is LGBTQ+ friendly. For visitors to Brisbane from elsewhere in the country, the fish and chips here tend to exceed expectations for what many assume will be standard fast-food fare.

The best fish n chips ever. It looks ordinary but the taste is surprisingly good!
The sea perch battered fish is high recommended. The fish is so tender , fresh and crunch.
The chicken burger got the perfect combination.
The calamari is bigger than other shop and the squid is fresh❤️Will definitely come back!
Best inner city fish and chips shop! Delicious food. Wether it’s to grab a breakfast burger or smash out some awesome fish and chips, this place suits my taste. It’s the only place in Kelvin Grove where you can get a fish and chips basket and a corner shop style burger with the lot. My choice fish and chip pack. Great fish and chips!!
Best chips I’ve had in a while consistent with previous visits. Mush try if you’re wanting crunchy medium fried chips with a soft centre. The fish is also bang on.
TLDR: had vego burger (yes…at a fish and chips store) – brutally mid IMO. If you’re looking for a burger, pay the extra $3 and go to burger urge 10 steps away.
Review: Carraway Pier seems to be quite highly reviewed by others, and to be fair I took the road less traveled with the veggie burger but honestly a very underwhelming experience.
Came in late and had a veggie burger. Service came off grumpy, but I’ll give a pass as it was close to closing. Atmosphere was fine, odd lack of music.
Burger was $11.5 so decentish pricing but buns were wrong way round (Patty not on sesame seed bun?) and tasted incredibly average. BBQ sauce listed on menu but couldnt taste/see? Toppings didn’t taste super fresh. No onions, pickles, vego cheese? Slices of toppings are funnily cut, thick tomato cut.
I appreciate pioneering into vego burgers as a fish and chips joint, but I’d leave it at salads unless the burger gets some more love.
The food is delicious, the service is warm, and the prices are fair. Coming from another city, I never expected to find such generous and tasty fish with chips in a fast-food restaurant. I am sure its 4.7 rating is fully deserved.
Best fish and chips ever. Chips are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Reasonably priced and very fresh ingredients. No regrets. Will keep coming
Dear potential customers
I write, not with malice, but with sadness.
I give 1 star, for whilst the chips were well beer battered and my fish burger with sufficiently fresh lettuce and tomato, and whilst the lemon juicy and tartare tart, I have been let down, in a way I didn’t think possible for a fish monger.
Twas a Wednesday night – my compatriots and I looking forward to a fishy feast after a long day. We entered the halls of happiness and ordered, and waited our 20 minutes to be called with our order. Upon receipt we realised a mistake had occurred, we received far less than what we hoped for – two meals less. Perhaps we thought, no one was to blame – a simple hospitality mix up during ordering. Tis a common occurrence.
But, dearest potential customers, what happened next shocked our wee buttons right off our boots. We proceeded to order more food, and were told we could not order more food, ‘maybe next time’, was the consolitory advice, because our vendor had assumed we would wait and our food would go cold. We could not explain that we would be happy to eat our first order and eat our second order when it arrived. We were not believed.
We ordered pizza to console ourselves.
Please, potential customers, order carefully. For there are no second chances in this regime.
Food is a bit too oily when it gets cold, but their seafood is fresh, the batter is crispy and the chips are the absolute highlight. I come back regularly and the chips never fail to taste amazing🤩
