About
Fryer of Whitby brings a genuine British fish and chip shop experience to Mountain Creek, Queensland, and it shows in every detail. The chips are hand-cut from real potatoes, served in the traditional style or crispy if that’s your preference, and the difference is noticeable. Battered cod is the signature, though snapper fillets in a light, crispy batter have earned plenty of fans as well. Alongside the fish, the menu runs to curry sauce, mushy peas, batter sausages, and scotch eggs, making this one of the more distinctive fish and chip shops in the Sunshine Coast region.
Regulars have been returning for years, with many noting the chips alone are worth the drive. The batter is consistently praised for its crispness, and the house-made quality of the chips sets the whole plate apart from your average suburban chippy. Potato cakes also get a mention from those who know what to order.
The shop is open for lunch and dinner, with dine-in seating, outdoor tables, and takeaway all available. It’s a family-friendly spot with a kids’ menu and high chairs on hand. Free parking adds a practical tick. One thing to note: wait times can stretch during busier periods, so phoning ahead for larger orders is a good idea.
With a solid four-plus star reputation across a large number of reviews, Fryer of Whitby has built real loyalty among locals and visitors alike. Check opening hours and menu details below.

Best fish n chips ever!! Gotta love a British homemade cut chips. It’s been over decade to enjoy Atlantic cods.. it’s delicious as tasty. Definitely recommend ❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻
Wow! So nice to have proper fish and chips I haven’t had chips like this since leaving England 14 years ago. The scotch egg was amazing and fresh out of the fryer. Nice crispy batter on the fish amazing curry sauce and mushy Peas all washed down with a nice cold Iron Bru. Also got a pork pie which I had no room for so will be eating this later. Definitely worth the 25 minute drive we will he coming back regularly. Great little selection of other English produce available to purchase in the shop.
Best fish and chips I’ve had in years! And years. Snapper filet, lightly battered is the best fried fish I’ve ever had I’d argue. Chips are a 10 for me you can get the traditional (a little soggy) or crispy, traditional is 👌🏽 potato cakes are a 10 for me too.
Fantastic english fush and chips with real handcut potatoes. The healthier and tastier chip by far. Do not spoil the organic flavour by choosing chicken salt. Cannot wait to go back. Owner was very courteous and helpful going beyond to serve me. Real food
A long wait considering no one was there but the food was delicious. Although I’m disappointed that the size of the regular cod was smaller than my hand and had less fish compared to the cheaper fish bites. The younger workers could be more welcoming and friendly too.
Food poisoning. Last night food.
Omg after I had the fish and chips my stomach is the worst in years. My husbands stomach is solid and even he had major problems after eating the food last night.
Our 2 year old had a bit of the fish and she was up for hours last night screaming .
The batter is neat on black from dirty old oil.
We all know the symptoms of food poisoning well right now at 6.28am I got just over an hour sleep if that. Thanks fryer if Whitby never again will I see you again.
Mick, for a number of years now you’ve consistently been the best chippy this side of the English Channel, your dedication to delivering the best possible product even through trying supply chain issues is what makes you the whole Fryer of Whitby crew the best in the business.
You’re appreciated.
The photo should say enough, but $56.00 for 2 Cod, 2 sml chips and 2 Cokes is a joke. Look at the fish, it’s nothing like you used to serve. I was fortunate enough to visit Trenchers in Whitby in Nov of 25, you need to look them up and see how far you’ve strayed from proper English fish n chips. I’m happy to pay for quality but what we paid vs what we were served is not acceptable. Part 2 response: We were there at 12.20pm. To be clear, I took a photo of the fish next to one of your forks to demonstrate size so you can’t deny the size, and yes, I ordered 2 small chips and I’m happy to post the receipt for you as well if you like! Based on your response, I also just got ripped off. Thanks
