About
Poseidon’s Seafood Fish & Chips is a casual fish and chip shop in Balwyn North serving up a broad menu for lunch and dinner. The shop handles dine-in, takeaway, and delivery, making it a flexible option for families across the area. Free parking adds to the convenience, and the relaxed atmosphere suits a quick midweek meal just as well as a weekend feed.
The menu covers the classics you’d expect from a local Victoria fish and chip shop, with fish, calamari, potato cakes, and dim sims all featuring regularly. Regulars speak well of the crispy chips, describing them as golden and well-seasoned. The potato cakes draw particular praise for being light and crispy rather than heavy. The calamari is noted for freshness, and the lamb souvlaki earns a mention from those who appreciate something a little different on the menu. A hotdog reportedly draws its own fans too.
It’s honest to note that recent reviews are mixed following a change of ownership. Some visitors describe the batter as light and crunchy even after takeaway transit, while others have flagged doughy batter and oil-heavy results. The shop has a strong reputation to build on and plenty of loyal locals who continue to rate it well overall.
Family-friendly with card and mobile payment accepted. Worth a visit if you’re after fish and chips in Balwyn North, though phoning ahead during the dinner rush is always a good idea.

Very good, the best potato cakes. Fish and calamari was fresh.
Even though we took away, the batter on the seafood still had a good crunch, not soggy at all.
Lamb souvlaki was surprisingly good coming from a fish and chip shop.
Tasty tasty tasty, well deserving of the 5 stars.
Fried fish and chips taste really really good! Especially the crispy fried chips and dim sim. I would recommend the happy meal, good quality and reasonable price👍
If you’re looking for top-tier fish and chips, Fav Seafood Fish & Chips in Balwyn North can be a choice. Their chips are spot-on—crispy, golden, and perfectly seasoned. The potato cakes are a standout too—light, crispy, and packed with flavor.
But it doesn’t stop there—the burgers are a real treat. Juicy, flavorful, and loaded with fresh toppings, they hit all the right notes. The portion sizes are generous, and the service is fast and friendly.
Highly recommend!
This Fish & Chips shop is doing a great job !!! The hotdog is very flavourful ~. The staff put a lot of effort into making the food. ^_^ ~~~~
I’m sorry. I usually don’t like to leave bad reviews for food. I usually just walk away and don’t come back. I won’t be back after today but also felt a need to recommend you get grilled fish not fried. It was so oily we threw out 80% of an entire fish. Made my daughter sick.
Been here before and decided to try it again not realising there had been a change of owner.
Fried Dim Sim – 10/10
Chips – 8/10
Fried Potato cake – 1/10 hard and all batter and oily.
Fried Fish – 0/10 wouldn’t even give it a one. As another reviewer has stated, really thick batter with liquid underneath and tasteless fish. Very oily.
Absolute disappointment and sadly will not be back.
Moved to the area and thought i would try the local Fish n Chip
Won’t be back! The fish was thick with batter and oily. Potato cakes hard as rocks, chips were ok but $6 for minimum is a little steep. Don’t be fooled by the 4.7 star google rating that was from the previous owners
I don’t usually give bad feedback but I was so put off the so called flake, it was inedible. We had a handfull of chips only and even the chips were very average. In the serving of chips, there were black chips, green chips and a small handfull of edible chips. I think this was the worst I’ve tasted.
How could you expect to sell basic fish and chips like that, and stay in business.
