Scoured the area for our Friday night Fish and Chips and found this place to be the best one. Was a little skeptical as all the places we had tried the fish was too greasy, small portions, stale buns etc. However over the last year we have gone through most of the menu and food is great every time. We find the flake to be of a good size, battered well and not overly greasy. the medium portion of chips is enough for the family with a couple of potato cakes. The wife is a big fan of the fish sticks and the little one loves the nuggets. Ordering is simple, over the phone and in 15 minutes the order is ready, so if you time it well you are in and out quite quickly. No complaints so far and will continue to use every Friday night.
The burgers are delicious small tip. The bread should be toasted more gets very soggy very easily, but the fish, the scallops and the chips. Everything is really lovely.
Our local and favourite…but not tonight!
Flake was thin and dry, it’s usually thick and fluffy. Banana fritter was brown in the middle!
Chips were fine as were potato cakes. Burger was good.
Fish Makes us wonder if it’s under new management. We hope this was a on off.
Visited tonight. Think place is different management since my last trip. Dinner pack worst ever. Fish full of fat, a few paper towels later, potato cake fatty crispy and dry inside. Not happy Used to be the best.
Not up to the standard I am used to at this shop. We purchased flake, chips and a lamb souvlaki. The meat in the souvalki was very tough and full of gristle. The chips were limp and the battered fish dry. Very disappointing from a previously good fish and chippery.
bad chips more like old stale and very bad calamari – very bad customer service er service
Friendly service and tasty fish and chips. Their potato cakes are our fave and scallops are BIG and juicy.
Thank you!
If you are looking for the gold standard of local takeout, look no further than Belmore Fish and Chippery. This place is a masterclass in how to do the classics right while offering a menu diverse enough to keep everyone in the family happy. I’ve visited several times now, and they never fail to impress.
The Food: Crispy, Juicy, and Perfectly Seasoned
First, let’s talk about the Fish and Chips. Finding the perfect batter is an art form, and Belmore has clearly mastered it. The fish is always incredibly fresh, flaky, and moist on the inside, encased in a golden, crispy batter that isn’t overly greasy. The chips are exactly how they should be: crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with just the right amount of chicken salt.
What sets this shop apart, however, is that they don’t just stop at seafood. Their Lamb Souvlaki/Lamb Rolls are a total game-changer. The meat is tender, well-marinated, and packed with that authentic charred flavor you usually only find in specialized Greek eateries. When wrapped in a warm, soft pita with fresh salad and creamy garlic sauce, it’s easily one of the best quick meals in the area.
And then there are the Burgers. In a world of over-complicated gourmet burgers, Belmore stays true to the classic “Aussie Style” burger that hits the spot every single time. The patties are juicy, the buns are toasted to perfection, and the ingredients are always fresh. Whether you’re grabbing a classic cheeseburger or one with “the lot,” you can taste the quality in every bite.
The Service: Welcoming and Efficient
Beyond the food, what really makes Belmore Fish and Chippery stand out is the exceptional service. From the moment you walk through the door, you’re greeted with a genuine smile and a friendly “hello.” It has that wonderful local community feel where the staff actually seem to care about your experience.
Even during the busy Friday night rush, the team operates like a well-oiled machine. My orders are always prepared quickly, but you can tell they don’t sacrifice quality for speed. They are also incredibly accommodating—whether you have a specific dietary request or just want your chips extra “well-done,” they handle it with a “no problem” attitude that is rare to find these days.
Final Verdict
Belmore Fish and Chippery is more than just a local chippy; it’s a reliable staple for anyone who appreciates great food made with care. Whether you’re craving a fresh piece of battered fish, a savory lamb roll, or a massive burger, this place delivers on all fronts.
Highly recommended! Great portions, fair prices, and the kind of friendly service that keeps you coming back week after week. If you haven’t tried them yet, you are seriously missing out.
