About
John’s Fish & Chip Shop has been serving the East Geelong community for well over a decade, building a solid reputation among locals who keep coming back. The shop operates as a takeaway venue, making it a practical stop for a quick lunch or a casual solo meal. Street parking and an onsite lot mean pulling up is hassle-free.
The fish and chips here draw genuine praise from regulars, with the barramundi singled out as a highlight, cooked fresh and seasoned just right. Long-term patrons credit the quality and consistency, with some noting they’ve been loyal customers for fifteen years or more. The team behind the counter is noted for polite, efficient service, keeping wait times short even when orders are large.
With a well-rated record across close to 190 reviews, John’s has a following that extends well beyond the immediate neighbourhood. Some visitors travel from outside the region specifically to eat here, which says something about the shop’s pull. It does attract the occasional strong opinion on chip portion sizes, so those with big appetites may want to size up their order.
For anyone searching for fish and chips in East Geelong, this is a well-established option with a track record worth considering. Phone ahead for larger orders during the lunch rush.

If I could do give negative 5 starts I would. This is by far the biggest rip off I’ve ever experienced. We ordered $6 worth of chips and come home to find you couldn’t even feed a worm with the amount of chips given. So I rang the shop to ask if this was correct and he replied “yes it is correct, don’t worry mate. And the price is going up next week” and then he hung up the phone.
So if you’re looking for the most expensive chips in the state then you’ve hit the jackpot!!!
As others have said total rip off, first and last time!
$6 chips is smallest portion ever seen and the kicker is $4.50 to add gravy..try to give a local a go and so disappointed..reading the comments seems iam not the only one..
I’m came from Pakenham for an ongoing project here and I tried barramundi twice, SPOT on , delicious, right amount of salt, and I had pickled onions as well. Very tasty .
old school talks, old school vibes just the way real men like.
When you approach old school people with respect, you get a whole lot in return.
Very disapointed in what we received after purchading the $60 pack.
I always try to suport local businesses.
I certainly couldnt in good faith, charge & serve that up to my customers.
We all gasped when we unfolded the paper last night to see what little we had received for $60.
(Maybe one small handful of chips) everything super small in size & portion.
Save your money, & go somewhere else im sorry to say.
$6 bucks seriously, overpriced for a small portion, most aren’t even chips. Go to Wilsons rd they got good prices quality and quantity taste better too
Perfectly cooked fish and chips all fresh quick and polite service as always great quality food 15 years and always great highly recommend .
Have to thank Bob and his team at john’s fish and chips will be back
The food was fine. However they stuffed up the order, even when we asked if it’s all there they said yes, to then get home and it isn’t. We called and they said they’ll put more on and we can come grab it. When we arrived, they didn’t even put enough on, and then tried to charge us again!
Absolutely the best in town! I’ve got 11 teenagers in a social group who love chips from John’s!
