About
Kilmore Fish and Chips has built a solid reputation among locals and travellers passing through the Victorian town of Kilmore. With decent reviews across a strong number of visits, the shop draws a loyal crowd that returns trip after trip, which says plenty about the consistency on offer.
The menu covers the classics alongside a few standouts worth noting. Snapper and fish cakes sit alongside prawn cutlets, squid packs, and seafood sticks, giving plenty of options for seafood fans. The chicken souvlaki has developed something of a following, with travellers making it a deliberate stop on repeat road trips through Kilmore. Regulars comment on fresh oil being used in the fryer, something that makes a noticeable difference to the finished product. The food is served hot and fresh, and the staff are known for being genuinely friendly and helpful.
The shop is takeaway only, so there is no dine-in seating, but it is a practical and welcoming stop for families, solo diners, and travellers alike. A kids’ menu is available, parking is free nearby, and the venue is wheelchair-accessible at the entrance. Card and mobile payments are accepted. Coffee and quick bites round out the offering for those who want something beyond fish and chips.
For anyone driving between Melbourne and regional Victoria, Kilmore fish and chip shop makes a reliable and satisfying pit stop. Phone ahead during busy lunch and dinner periods to keep the wait short.

I went back here for the second time by request at the end of July 2021. My Mother had her birthday, all she wanted was to go back to Kilmore Fish and Chips for her birthday, nothing else. My Mother has been to a lot of fish and chip shops over the last nine decades in a lot of Australian States, she said that this is the, and I quote “Best Fish and Chips in Australia “, so what else can I say except that I agree.
Menu: Good selection of fresh fish and chips plus other seafood, burgers and salads. There is packs on the menu. We had the barra and it is huge.
Price: For two pieces of fish, minimum chips, pickled onion x 2 and sauce I got change out of $25. The fish was that big that we are one piece of fish between the two of us and had the other the next day.
Service: Extremely nice and polite, easy to talk to and communicate with. They pack your fish very well and it stays hot, I mean hot.
Parking: There is some parking at the back of the shop. When it’s not raining and no Covid restrictions, there is a nice park over and just down the street, it would be nice to eat at.
The fish and chips here, we’re worth driving from Melbourne to have, but if you are passing through or staying at Kilmore, stop, visit them and I I’m guessing that you will enjoy it as much as we did.

So took 45mins for food after placing the order then hear staff talk about bad hygiene in there work place. Then to drive home and take one look at the food and is so dry and no potato left in the potato cakes was disgusting and costed $55 for poor dry food. First time order and never again
Second and last time here. Burnt food both times, 45 minutes waiting for a small order, expensive too.
Ordered a hamburger for some lettuce like hello where is my burger…egg tomatoe onion where are you? …worst fish and chip shop in Victoria the old owners need to come back can seriously order a $2 hamburger at McDonald’s and get more not only you forget the burger to then call and say come back pick it up to then return and bring this home patty is dry lettuce is well want some meat with that burger absolutely putrid!!!! Will never come back not worth any star rating! I wouldn’t Evan upload a photo it’s that bad my dog wouldnt Evan eat the patty
Another trip to Melbourne. Another stop at Kilmore Fish and Chips for another lamb souvlaki. Will stop there next time. Again. Even if the decor isn’t grand.
Went in tonight to pick up my order- staff member (owner) sitting full view of customer cutting toenails. Time and place!! Hope no-one got extra in their meals!
Have stopped through this place twice now on separate camping trips. After day trips into town the people who run this place are super friendly, helpful and the food is delicious
First time ordering fish and chips from here as we usually just order from wallan, and I’ll definitely be back. Everything was fresh, and you could tell fresh oil was used which honestly makes a huge difference in how the food tastes. Definitely beats any of the fish and chip places down in wallan.
