About
CJ’s Fish & Chippery has built a solid reputation in Wallan as the kind of place that reminds you why a good fish and chip shop is hard to beat. That attention to doing things properly comes through in the food, and regulars rate it as the best fish and chips in town.
The shop is simple and unpretentious, which seems to be exactly the point. The service is warm and friendly, and any hiccup with an order is handled without fuss. Families are well catered for, with a kids’ menu that even the pickiest young eaters tend to approve of. Free parking, wheelchair-accessible entry, and table service make the visit comfortable for a range of diners.
Both dine-in and takeaway are available, and the shop accepts reservations for groups. Payment by card or mobile is no trouble. CJ’s draws visitors from beyond the immediate area, with regulars happy to make the journey for a meal.

Delicious little fish and chips shop that does amazing old school style hamburgers.
The burger patties are hand made and cooked to order.
The fish is fresh and is freshly battered (or grilled of you prefer) to order. It is served rustic style and wrapped in butcher’s paper. Staff are friendly and always helpful if you’re unsure on what to order.
Highly recommend if you like old fashioned fish and chips.
I rang in advance to make sure I could have the flake freshly battered (not done in the morning but immediately before frying) and they said they would do it because it wasn’t busy. Unfortunately, I didn’t find out until I got the food home that they weren’t truthful and just gave me the soggy pre battered rubbish.
If they didn’t want to do it, they just had to be honest. Not the first problem I’ve had with them but I’m always willing to give everyone another chance. 3rd strike, so they’ve lost me as a customer for good now.

You could have just stopped at the apology instead of blaming the customer but, seeing as you did… It’s not the first time I’ve ordered or eaten freshly battered fish in my life. The 4min trip from my house to your shop, the wait in line to pay and pick up (5 customers in front) and then 4min return journey shouldn’t have been an issue. I can tell when something is freshly battered as opposed to been par cooked in batter applied earlier in the day.
Been here a couple of times and always have a good experience. Recently had a small issue with an order due to a miss communication between myself and the staff, went in straight away and it was fixed with no issue. Great customer service and great food! Highly recommend to try these guys if you’re in town and waiting some good takeaway!
(Writing this as I’m currently waiting for an order to be cooked)
The best fish and chips in town. Even my very picky 8 year gave it the thumbs up! we won’t be going anywhere else 10/10
I’ve been here a few times now and each time my fish cake has been over cooked, but tonight it was BURNT. Not happy and whom ever decides its OK to serve there returning customers BURNT for should be embarrassed.
Aug 2025: My grandfather took me here. Said it was the best fish and chips this side of Wallan. He was right. The shop is simple, but CJ was a legend, super friendly and the food was freshly cooked and delicious. Will be back next time we’re in Wallan.
Chips were ‘old’, burnt and inedible! Fish was OK at best.
The best fish and chips worth travelling for….old school service and value for money
