About
The Golden Horseshoe Fish and Chips has been a fixture in Mill Park for a long time, and regulars make a point of saying it hasn’t changed, which is very much meant as a compliment. The retro 1980s fitout, complete with booths and a bright, airy dining room, gives the place a character that’s increasingly rare in a suburban fish and chip shop. It’s the kind of spot that earns loyalty across generations.
The signature dish is goat fish and chips, and it draws consistent praise for generous servings and reliably fresh fish. Grilled whiting is another highlight, with regulars noting the fillets are fresh and the chips come out crunchy. The dim sims and onion rings also get a good run, with the batter praised for being crisp and well-seasoned. Burgers round out a menu that covers the classics without overcomplicating things.
The shop is open for lunch and dinner and offers dine-in, takeaway, and delivery, making it easy to enjoy however suits. A kids’ menu and wheelchair-accessible entry make it a practical choice for families visiting this part of Melbourne’s north. Free parking is available, service is noted as friendly and prompt, and reservations are accepted, which is handy given the shop can get busy. That said, wait times can stretch during peak periods, so phoning ahead is a sensible move.
For anyone in Mill Park after a solid, no-fuss fish and chips experience, The Golden Horseshoe has a well-rated reputation built over many years. Phone ahead for orders during the dinner rush.

Been away for years and was thrilled that The Golden Horseshoe has not changed at all. Great traditional fish and chips, decent prices, very friendly and professional service and the best bit, the original 1980s deco! We had the family pack with flake, dim sims, potato cakes, calamari rings and chips. Of course the obligatory chicken salt included!!
My boyfriend and I went to The Golden Horseshoe Fish and Chip shop on Tuesday 27th June 2022. We ordered the budget pack, two dim sims and tomato sauces. We were happy with the food especially the chicken nuggets. Customer service was friendly, kind. Food was nice and we would recommend it for others to try it out. Thank you 🙂
Dont bother going here if you dont have cash, they charge you extra to use your card. Omg whats going on in this store, potato cakes were that over cooked and hard there was hardly any potato inside.
We will not be going back we are done.
Let me tell you one of the most delicious fish and chip shop I’ve eaten at, the onion ring was on point the batter was delicious and salted perfectly. Staff very friendly with a smile on their face, the vibe is a old school fish and chip shop with booths to sit in. Recommend to anyone who’s a fish n chip lover everything is YUMMY!!
The goat fish and chips. Just does not miss. Generous servings, always fresh, best fisho in town and has been for many many years. Lovely service every time.
Absolutely blown away. I ordered the burger with the lot and it was unreal — juicy, fresh, stacked perfectly, and full of flavour. You can tell everything’s made properly, not rushed. Portion size was great and it hit the spot big time. If you’re after top-quality fish and chips (or an elite burger), this place is a must. I’ll definitely be back.
Fresh, big fillet of grilled whiting and crunchy chips, served with a big smile – thanks, great late lunch! It’s a roomy, airy and bright old-style place with booths. Very comfy.
