About
Grand Boulevard Fish & Chips has built a strong reputation in Montmorency as a neighbourhood fish and chip shop that keeps things simple and does them exceptionally well. With well over four and a half stars across a healthy number of reviews, it’s one of the better-regarded spots in the area, and regulars clearly keep coming back for good reason.
The flake is a standout here, known for generous portions with a crispy batter that doesn’t leave that heavy, greasy feeling common at many other shops. The kitchen fries in beef tallow, which gives the chips and batter a distinct old-school flavour that plenty of locals reckon takes them straight back to the fish and chips of their childhood. Prices are consistently praised as excellent value, which makes it an easy choice for families looking for an affordable, satisfying meal.
The venue is run by a friendly team who are upfront with customers even on the busiest nights. Saturday evenings can get busy, so phoning ahead is a smart move if time is short. Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and the shop is family-friendly with wheelchair-accessible parking and entrance, so it suits a wide range of visitors. Hamburgers are also on the menu for anyone in the group who wants something a little different.
Anyone in the Montmorency area searching for proper, no-fuss fish and chips will find this spot hard to beat. Check opening hours below and consider calling ahead during the dinner rush.

Great decent place for good old fish and chips done simply but well. Doesn’t leave you with a greasy sickening feeling like most other places nowadays.
The flake was absolutely huge!
Prices are amazing value and run by a lovely couple trying to make a honest living. Please continue to support these guys.
I went in there on an extremely busy Saturday night.
They were backlogged with up to an hour wait.
They were very honest about this, so I hesitated, as I only wanted a burger..
The owner said that he could make one up for me pretty quickly if I didn’t mind waiting for a bit…
Orders of good quality looking fish kept coming up.
At the end I waited around 15 minutes, which was awesome.
The staff are very friendly, acknowledge their regulars, are polite and professional…
I saw the way they cooked their fish: slow fry initially then put it into the hotter oil to crispen up…
They take pride in their work, hence food taking a little longer than normal…
My burger was massive.
Nice, big juicy patty.
Really good fish and chips burger.
Nice and hot, flavoursome and actually pretty filling.
Will definitely go back and try the fish and other items…
The locals definitely have a good one….
Prices are cheap for what you get.
Quality seems excellent…
Went here for lunch after seeing a review on YouTube and it didn’t disappoint. The fish was the best I’ve had from a local fish and chip shop. We got Pack 2 it was a very generous serving. Crispy chips and very good potato cakes. The owners were lovely also. Will definitely be back.
If I could give this place six stars I would.
I am new to the area and was my first time trying. I can say they really didn’t disappoint. Ordered the number two pack with my partner and the flake was cooked to perfection with a crispy batter and juicy inside. Honestly tasted like something from my childhood, and they threw a cheeky free potato cake in as well.
The staff were super friendly and I only waited five minutes for my food. Definitely will be back again and over the moon we have an awesome local fish and chippery!
I saw a YouTube video featuring Grand Boulevard Fish & Chips and thought to myself, “I’ve definitely got to try this place out,” especially since I’m on a quest to find the best fish and chips in Melbourne. And today was the day. Because it was about a 40-minute drive, I also called ahead to make sure they were open.
I’m giving 4 stars, and there’s quite a lot to say, both positive and negative, but mostly nice things.
For example, I really like how much food you get for $16, and you also get a can of drink. Dollar-to-performance is very good.
The food was ready within 15 minutes, relatively quick.
As for the taste, this place joins the list of fish and chip shops that genuinely serve decent, flavourful flake. On a flavour scale from 1 to 5, this is a solid 4. It could be a little more flavourful, but I think what held it back was the flake being slightly dry on the inside. The batter was nice and crisp, and the flake itself was quite large. Well done, Grand Boulevard.
All chips, except for one, were perfectly crisp on the outside with soft potato on the inside, almost mash-like. As you can see from the photo, there was only one chip with visible green bruising. Some of the others did have small black spots, but not enough to be an issue. A good result considering how many chips there were, along with the other food.
The potato cakes were a little lacklustre. Both were on the small side and a bit too thin, and they were also slightly dry. I think I would have preferred one bigger, thicker potato cake instead of two smaller ones.
The fried calamari had decent flavour, but the texture inside was a little strange, a bit mushy. Excellent crisp on the outside, though.
The dim sim was crisp and very much your standard, run-of-the-mill dimmie. You either love it or hate it. I’m indifferent. It’s very rare that I praise a dim sim, as a lot of fish and chip shops have very similar-tasting ones.
Everything had a good amount of salt. Not overly salty, but not under-seasoned either. Just the right amount.
I also liked how the overall mouthfeel was while eating. There was no oily coating left in my mouth. Very clean. I didn’t feel like I needed to wash anything down with my Pepsi. Honest and clean food. Quite a few places could learn something from Grand Boulevard in this area in particular.
The only other thing worth mentioning is that I would’ve loved to see a slice of lemon. I love lemon with fish and chips and think it’s a must-have to add that extra bit of freshness and subtle sourness.
Otherwise, it was well worth the trip. I’m mainly rating the amount of food in this case, with the score heavily weighted toward the fish and chips in particular. I ate this meal around 12 (lunchtime) and it’s now 9:48 PM. I’m still quite full, which says what it says.
Great value. Highly recommended.
The best in town by far. Just like the old school fish and chips from back in the day. They use beef tallow to fry, and you can taste the difference.
Affordable and value for money. And the guys that work there are great!
Great quality fish and chips are hard to find – Grand Boulevard deliver in every way. Amazing service with small thoughtful touches, reasonable prices and the food is great quality. Didn’t leave you feeling queasy from greasy food, it was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. Will be our regular F&C from now on
Not just the best fish and chips in Australia but the best staff ever. This is old school value for money but even more than that it’s bloody delicious.
