About
Point Hook Fish & Chips has built a solid reputation in Point Cook for serving genuinely fresh fish with a light, crispy batter that keeps regulars coming back. The fried flake and calamari are the clear stars of the menu, with the calamari drawing particular praise for its clean, crunchy coating and fresh flavour. Snapper and grilled fish options also feature, with blue grenadier and barramundi among the choices for those who prefer something off the fryer.
The batter here is a frequent talking point. Regulars note it avoids the heavy, greasy quality found at some other spots, and the shop is careful to pack fish separately from the chips so nothing ends up soggy. Chip portions are described as generous, though opinions on the chips vary more than on the fish. Potato cakes are on the menu for those wanting the full fish and chip shop experience.
Service is quick, which matters when the dinner rush hits. Staff have a knack for recognising familiar faces despite the volume of customers coming through, a small touch that goes a long way. The pricing sits comfortably below what similar Point Cook fish and chip shops charge, making it a practical choice for families. Dine-in, takeaway, and delivery are all available, and there is a kids’ menu for younger diners.
Phone ahead during busy periods to keep wait times short.

Absolutely love their grilled fish. We tried blue grenadier, snapper, barramundi & whirring. All dishes were very fresh and the seasoning on the fish is so good. They don’t offer the options of different seasoning would have been good if we could pick between atleast 3-4 options. Their fried fish were very popular and in high demand. Chips are ok. We usually get only fish and have it with salad at home. Although they do sell the salads too. They also offer burgers and fried desserts.
Terrible quality sausage in batter… the picture says it all. We pretty much got a crusty sausage that had very little batter. Really disappointing. The woman serving was also rude and charged extra without advising why. When we asked, she said it’s a card fee but there’s no sign and no indication if this is true or if she just felt like charging us extra. I don’t recommend, will definitely be going elsewhere.
The only place in Melbourne that reflects classic fish and chips. Moderately priced compared to everywhere else.
Similar to NZ quality and quantity. Shop was clean and tidy. Service was also fast.
Absolutely 💯 fresh and delicious, chips and calamari. I willcome back for sure to have more. Many thanks.
The best fried fish and calamari ever! The fish and calamari batter is sooo light and crunchy! Fresh fish and calamari, super affordable too.
The potato cakes and chips were not that great.
Incredible Service & Delicious Food! Went in tonight and there was only one lady working — and honestly, she absolutely killed it. The shop was packed with customers, but she handled everything on her own like a pro. Despite how busy it was, she still remembered our faces and got our entire order spot-on.
The food was delicious as always, fresh, hot, and exactly what you want from a fish and chip shop. Massive props to her for keeping everything running so smoothly. She deserves all the praise — we’ll definitely be back!
We have now been here a couple of times and we have tried many different items to get a true read on the overall quality of this fish shop and can I say we absolutely love it! The quality is one of the best in our area, the batter is crispy and light, the seafood is fresh, the taste is really really good and it’s really well priced. If you are looking for a great fish shop, that is crispy, fresh and doesn’t break the bank, then this is the one for you.
Our new favourite fish and chip shop. 4th time today and fish is so fresh always. The batter is light and crisp perfect. Chip portions are very generous. Never a greasy mess as packed separately from fish.
