About
The Original Queenscliff Fish and Chips has built a strong reputation among locals and visitors alike, drawing regulars from across Victoria with consistently well-executed, non-greasy fry work. For a fish and chip shop in Queenscliff, that detail matters: the batter here comes out light and clean, not heavy, which keeps people coming back.
The menu covers the classics and then some. Flake is available both crumbed and grilled, and both preparations earn plenty of praise. Potato scallops are a firm favourite, while the prawns are noted for being generously sized, sweet, and fresh. Calamari strips round out what becomes a solid seafood spread, and the tartare sauce is specifically called out as worth ordering. Pumpkin fritters appear on the menu too, for those after something a little different. The kitchen handles the lunch and dinner rush without turning out sluggish wait times, which is no small feat given the volume of trade the shop sees.
Families are well looked after, with a kids’ menu and plenty of space for groups. Outdoor seating adds to the relaxed feel, and the shop is open across the week including Saturday afternoons when many comparable spots in the area are not. Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and the shop accepts card and NFC payments. Free parking can be found nearby, making a visit straightforward for those travelling in.
Some people have made the drive from Melbourne purely for lunch here, and by all accounts they leave satisfied. Phone ahead during busy dinner periods to avoid a longer wait.

We were in the area and they were one of the few places that were open on a Sat afternoon at 4:30pm. Our pet peeve with a lot of fish & chips places is the oiliness so we were absolutely delighted when we found no greasiness in every bite, and even more delighted at how fresh the fish was. It’s one of those humble little places where they don’t look fancy but they know what they’re doing, and what they offer, they do it right.
The flake was exceptional, I like mine crumbed, and the wife likes hers grilled, and they were both cooked to perfection.
The potato scallops were also great.
The pumpkin fritters, personally I thought the batter was a bit thick, and I peeled it off.
Prices were good, on par with others in the area.
We were only visiting the area for a short time but went here for lunch twice.
BEST FISH & CHIPS IN QUEENSCLIFF!!!

Did we drive nearly two hours just to have fish and chips for lunch? Yes. Was it busy? Yes. Did we have to wait long? Not really. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Best fish and chips we’ve ever had. Have been several times over the years and they have always been consistently awesome.
Down there for the Hot Rod Days. We had you Grilled Fish, Battered Fish and Chips. The Fish is the Best that I have tasted in a long time So sweet and Juicy and didn’t taste like it was cooked next to Hamburgers. Mu Husband raved on about the Chips he would have sat and eaten them all day, his battered fish was amazing and the Batter was not oily, we sat on the seat outside the Church and enjoyed the Atmosphere. We are planning on making this a Place to go for Date Night.
Bonus points for the Australia shaped potato cake. Minus a point for forgetting to include the tartare sauce and lemon wedge in the pack-for-2
Small fish and chip Cafe, that punches well above it’s shop size with the number of orders they pump out. Unfortunately this can lead to fairly long wait times. We were told there’d be a 10 min wait, which ended up being 25 mins. It would be better to give a longer wait time and hopefully deliver quicker.
The food quality though was great. Thoroughly enjoyed.
The food quality though
Perfectly cooked grilled fish burger. Generous amount of fish and salad in the burger. Potato cakes were huge. Ordered 3 but could only eat 2. A friend ordered the flake. It is locally caught and was the freshest flake we have ever eaten. Batter on the flake was light and crispy.
We arrived just on closing and the staff were warm and friendly. Still wanting to deliver a premium service despite wanting to clean up and pack up. Well done to all the staff.
