About
Trident Fish Bar is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Queenscliff, Victoria, drawing visitors from well beyond the region. With over 850 reviews and a solid four-plus star reputation, it has earned a loyal following among locals and travellers alike.
The menu covers the classics with care. Battered fish and chips is the signature, and the batter here is regularly praised for being crispy, fresh, and light. Flake is a popular choice, and the potato cakes are notably generous in size. Calamari, prawns, and dim sims round out the menu nicely, and there’s a house-made tartar sauce that regulars tend to favour alongside the seafood. For families, there’s a kids’ menu, and gluten-free options are available for those with dietary needs.
Dine-in seating and takeaway are both on offer, with outdoor seating and free parking making it a practical stop. The venue is wheelchair accessible and well set up for family visits. It’s open for lunch and dinner, which suits day-trippers passing through Queenscliff on their way to or from the Great Ocean Road. Some visitors have made the drive specifically to try the fish and chips here, which says something about the shop’s reputation across Victoria.
As with any busy venue, experiences can vary, and a small number of regulars have noted inconsistency with oil freshness on occasion. For most visitors, though, Trident Fish Bar delivers a solid, satisfying feed. Phone ahead during the dinner rush if you’re planning a larger order.

Drove 2 hours from mine just to try Victoria’s best fish and chip shop and it did not disappoint. We had a gummy, prawns, calamari and scallops paired with their homemade tartar sauce. Also had full crayfish salad which was meaty and fresh for $45. Their batter was what made it different to other fish and chip shops. A bit soggy though. Wait times were a bit long and you really had to pay attention when waiting for your order to be called outside. Other than that, most people eat at the park across from the shop and it’s literally a stone throw away from the beach. Heaps of free parking nearby. Beware of the seagulls. I think the seagulls outnumbered the people in Queenscliff that day. I would recommend a visit if you’re in the Geelong area.
Recommended by a local and didn’t disappoint Had blue grenadier – potato cakes!! and superb calamari If you’re travelling from ferry to Great Ocean Road drop in and enjoy the freshest fish
We ordered a huge selection of chips,Flake,Fim Sims and Potato Cakes. The battered fish was so white ,fresh and fluffy. The potato cakes were so large and tasty.Thr chips were well fried .On a slight downside the Dim Sims were tasty but over salted.
Overall I would recommend this fish and chips to all and sundry.I honestly cannot remember when I had enjoyed my “fish and chips” last.
Been coming here annually for years every time I think perhaps it’ll be good this time yet always disappoints tasting of oil not being changed regularly resulting in uncrispy batter soggy stale tasting chips, potato cakes and dim sims. Fish tastes gummy and is a small portion for the price. Do not go here.
Lovely burgers and very nice chips. Come here for a fantastic meal.
This place was one of the best how the hell did you turn it into the worst fish and chips. How there you charge me for dry small scallops out of frozen pack, eight scallops I would say 3 of your scallops are equivalent to normal fish and chip shops. Top it off you don’t make steak sandwich, Rude customer service. I will never return nor will my friends and family.
In the past we have enjoyed our butterfish and chips from Trident. Today, however was a horrible experience. The fish tasted stale, chips were very soggy and tasted of old oil. The two potato cakes were the same and it was difficult to find any potato amongst the stale tasting batter. Fortunately the seagulls didn’t complain. What a waste of money for two aged pensioners. We won’t be going back.
Batter was soggy, we spent 60 dollars today thinking that the 4.4 rating should be good. Very sad and disappointed as I type this sitting in front of the fish as I don’t want to eat it. Same with the calamari, soggy batter. The dim sim is not crispy on the outside at all.
