About
Gregs Take Away has built a well-earned reputation in Wodonga as a no-frills, flavour-first takeaway that keeps regulars coming back. The menu leans into classic fish and chips done right, with flake, potato cakes, and dim sims all making regular appearances on orders. At around thirty dollars for a spread that includes chips, dim sims, a potato cake, a sav in batter, and a piece of flake, the value is hard to fault.
The hamburgers deserve a particular mention. Made with real beef patties and loaded with the lot, they have earned a strong following across the Albury and Wodonga region. The schnitzel burger is another firm favourite with the lunch crowd. Chips come out fresh, and the overall pace of service is quick, which suits the student and tourist traffic the shop regularly sees.
The interior is old-school and unpretentious, but that is part of the appeal. Locals know what they are getting, and first-timers quickly understand why the place keeps pulling people in. The food is described by regulars as authentic fish and chips done in the old Italian tradition, which is a rarity in the current fast-food landscape. Free parking is available on-site and on the street, and the shop is fully wheelchair accessible. It is family friendly, making it a practical stop for groups with kids.

If I could rate less, I would. 4.5 stars is fake accounts, I cannot be convinced otherwise. We literally watched them make it fresh, and somehow it was soggy cardboard. The fish, didn’t taste like fish, or anything, which is wild. Super disappointed. We both took one bite and threw the rest out. Our dogs wouldn’t even eat it.
Burger with the lot so bloody tasty so much filling was perfect and such great value!
Burger, minimum chips, 2 steam dimsims, 1 potato cake, sav in batter and a piece of flake $30 absolute steal so tasty the food chips so fresh and crispy
Only thing is wish he smothered the chips in chicken salt for my liking
Best hamburgers in Albury/Wodonga! Real ingredients & real home made beef patties. VERY reasonably priced.
Don’t let the old facade & interior fool you. The local’s know & love it.
There’s outdoor seating, available if you’re from out of town.
I would have given less stars if I could have for the “food” I received alone, but for the service I guess the one is fine.
I came here because of the primary rating.
Left wondering if these reviews were paid for?
Everything was undercooked, greasy and the fish made me violently ill. Worst chips I’ve ever been served.
Looked and tasted inedible and even dogs refused to touch it!
Avoid this place. Don’t make the same mistake for the love of GOD.
Disgusting.
I am confused how you can in good conscience charge people money for what I was given – nor a small amount at that.
From more recent dive into buried reviews this is a common occurrence here. Honestly dumbfounded.
Interesting reading the other reviews, everything was very tasty – no problems at all.
Unfortunately, we ordered and paid for two pieces of fish, but after arriving at the park and opening the package, we only had received one. I had commented on the very good pricing, but missing a major component certainly changes that.
Great food and great people. Always a stop every time I come over this way. Recommended for good authentic fish and chips the old Italian way.
Good service, great fast food!
Affordable price 🫱🏻🫲🏼
Schnitzel Burger with the lot!😍
Ordered cheese burger and chips. The meat is very thin, diameter is half the size of the bun, and obviously not good quality. (Please refer to the picture.. The bun is like an oversized dress to a thin girl).
Taste is very basic since the meat is undercooked and maybe mixed with flour. The cheese is almost invisible. Chips are very basic and soggy.
Pricelist: Cheeseburger $7.90, Chips small $5, coke $? – for this package they charged us $19. So the coke is $6?
Both men behind the counter refused to smile to us, even though we were polite and smiley to them. Literally, the young man was smiling when we entered the door and stopped smiling when he looked up and saw us. The older man had similar attitude. Feels almost like discrimination.
And looking at other people’s picture, compare it to ours. Have they purposely served us crap? Never experienced anything like that in any part of the world. Especially never in friendly Albury & Melbourne where we came from.
If you want good burger in the area, go to Frankie’s in Albury, Albury Burger Co. in North Albury, or at Retro Cafe attached to Albury Library. And they always greet us with smile and friendly hospitality.
For best chips: Frankie’s it is.
