About
Johnny’s Quality Fish Bar is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Como, drawing regulars from across the Como and South Perth area. The battered fish and chips are the signature here, and the light batter is something locals talk about. Dine in if you can, as the chips arrive hot and crispy straight from the fryer.
The menu goes a step beyond the usual. Battered mussels have developed something of a cult following, with regulars rating them among the most enjoyable items on offer. The atmosphere is casual and unfussy, with outdoor seating available for those who prefer to eat in the open air. Families and groups are well catered for, with a kids’ menu and full wheelchair accessibility.
Both dine-in and takeaway are available, and the shop does a strong trade at lunch and dinner. It is worth noting that recent feedback has been mixed on cooking consistency, so experiences can vary from visit to visit. That said, the shop holds a solid four-plus star reputation across nearly 400 reviews, which speaks to how often the kitchen gets it right.
For anyone in Como or the broader South Perth area looking for a reliable fish and chips fix in a relaxed setting, Johnny’s is a genuine local option. Phone ahead during busy dinner periods to avoid a wait.

If it’s the fish and chips that you’re craving for, then this is the top place to get it, whether dine in or take away, this is the place. And during Holy Week especially good Friday, one must be early coz a lot is also lining up to get it. They serve big chunk of mussels and fish perfectly fried to a crisp. Didn’t disappoint.
My family and I are regulars at Johnny once every 2 to 3 months. Thank you for the excellence food and service.
I would highly recommend people to dine in to get hot and crispy fish and chips. We actually bring our chilli sauce and tartar sauce to go with it. Wine glasses 🍷 available.
Food is great, service is great. 12% surcharge for Good Friday… the single busiest day of the Fish & Chip shop year… not so great.
We stopped going to Tankk up the road because they did a surcharge on this day. Disappointed you guys have taken it on as well.
Don’t bother with the “we pay extra for our staff blah blah blah” as well. Heard it from Tankk, still don’t go. Busiest day of the year. Now we have to find some place else that doesn’t gouge money on Good Friday…
I was going to go three stars… but your fish and chip portion sizes are great. Four stars. I can’t go five… not when you have a surcharge on a religious holiday.
Johnny’s is quality first. You won’t be disappointed ! Best fish & chips in como and south Perth no doubts.
Stopped in for fish n chips based on a locals recommendation.
Fantastic fish and pretty good chips.
10/10 – its not ‘fancy’, but quality doesnt need to be.
Hidden spot, very nice for a date. Those battered muscles are crazy good 10/10 its like the sea foods version of popcorn chicken. My gawd.
Come here all the time and usually very good. Went there the other day and got the Spanish mackerel (4 servings) and $10 worth of chips . The batter on the fish wasn’t cooked properly, very soggy and not like they usually make it. Very disappointing especially how much fish and chips costs these days. The staff are very good but I find lack of experience behind the counter, seemed bit stressed out. Maybe need more experienced staff helping out and guide younger staff on how to operate the cooking. Will be back but hopefully it will be better .
The Albany Shark was extremely disappointing.
There is no way you would be served shark like that in Albany. It was like it was sliced into a minute steak. The batter was not cooked and stuck to the paper and came completely off when the fish was picked up.
Chips were cooked good, but were all tiny like off cuts of potatoes.
The wrapping was so loose it was barely holding it all in the package I had to re wrap it in the car to make it home.
Overall disappointed, won’t go back.
