About
Sailboat Fish and Chips in Halls Head brings something genuinely different to the local fish and chip shop scene. The menu blends classic Australian takeaway fare with Vietnamese-inspired dishes, and the Halls Head Banh Mi has become something of a local talking point. Regulars describe the rolls as generously filled and bursting with flavour, and the half-hour waits they sometimes attract say plenty about the demand.
The fish and chips themselves have drawn praise for the batter, which regulars describe as light, thin, and perfectly crunchy without being overdone. Snapper is on offer, and the shop also does crumbed squid rings rather than battered, a detail that wins fans of its own. Beyond the classics, the menu extends to prawn wontons, spring rolls, crispy roast pork with rice, beef lemongrass noodle salad, and chicken pho noodle soup, giving the venue a range that goes well beyond a typical Halls Head fish and chip shop.
Sailboat operates as a takeaway and delivery venue, with a kids’ menu available and wheelchair-accessible facilities on site. Gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options are offered, making it a practical choice for groups with varied dietary needs. Free parking is available, which adds to the convenience. It is worth noting that some recent reviews have flagged inconsistencies in service and food quality, so phoning ahead during busy periods is a sensible move.

When I’d ordered and asked for vinegar and soy sauce. Staff looked at me as if I’m confused. Offered chicken salt . After I’d repeated 3 times I’d replied don’t worry I’d put it on at home . Learn your job
Was our favourite fish and chip shop but has sold and new owners have reduced the chip portion by half. Got $20 chips and it wasn’t much. Think we’ll find a new spot now.
Had snapper and chips, $15. Batter was perfect, thin and crunchy, fish was a good portion and tasted amazing.
First time trying a Banh Mi roll and it didnt disappoint, I can see why there was a half hour wait for the rolls. Definitely going back for more
We grabbed the Halls Head Banh Mi and the Signature Banh Mi and they were great. Both were packed with fresh, generous fillings and bursting with flavour. Easily the best Banh Mi’s we’ve had in Mandurah!
We also ordered some chips with gravy on the side, and they were fantastic too – super crispy, perfectly seasoned, and the gravy was spot on. Hands down the best chips I’ve had in ages. The only downside was the portion size, which was a little on the smaller side.
Overall, a great feed. We’ll definitely be back!
why are yall closed even when on google it says your open. ive come every single day after boxing day since u had a sign saying closed on xmas eve xmas and boxing day. so now its Tuesday and it says your open, i come again wasting time and fuel and ur closed. so annoying
Ordered fish n chips yesterday and we all really enjoyed the meal. One excellent point was the batter on the fish. Light, not overdone, and cooked perfectly. They also crumb squid rings which (IMO) is nicer than battered.
This place WAS my favourite fish & chips until new management/owner took over January 2026 after the renovation. Food is terrible
Very expensive, they won’t update their website. $85 for a family fish and chips is insane. Very oily chips.
