About
The Fish and Chips Lady is a family-friendly fish and chip shop in Lalor, Victoria, serving up dine-in, takeaway, and delivery to the local community. The new owners have made a strong impression, bringing a warm and welcoming atmosphere that regulars have quickly taken to. Flake and chips is the signature dish, and it shows. The flake arrives fresh with a light, well-executed batter, and the chips are consistently praised for being perfectly salted without veering into greasy territory.
Generous serving sizes are a recurring theme, with the snack pack for two sitting in the $27 to $35 range and reportedly leaving plenty of leftovers. Burgers also feature on the menu, rounding out a solid spread for families looking for a casual meal. The venue is clean, wheelchair accessible, and has free parking on site, making it a practical choice for a quick weeknight dinner or a lazy weekend feed.
Some visitors have noted the pricing sits a touch higher than comparable spots, and portion consistency can vary. That said, many who were initially put off by older reviews found the current experience well above expectations. Delivery runs in the 20 to 25 minute range for those ordering from home. A kids’ menu is available, making it a comfortable option for families across the Lalor area.

Absolutely amazing! The new owners are a beautiful, kind family who bring such a warm and welcoming vibe to the place. The food is a solid 10/10 — everything is so tasty! The fish and chips are perfectly cooked, and the burgers are absolutely delicious. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area. You won’t be disappointed!
I used to go here either weekly or fortnightly to grab some food. While the previous owner was rather quiet with me, I would usually get a decent portion size for what I liked to order (wedges with some other sides).
This time I noticed that it was under new management as I hadn’t been ordering for a few months.
Went to try out an small order, and not only did it take longer than expected, the portion size was about 30-40% less than past orders, AND I’d say maybe half the chips were burnt.
I couldn’t believe the major drop in quality.
I’d be willing to give the new management one more shot the next time I order but if I received this quality of food when there was only one other person before me, I have very low hopes of them being able to give me a quality meal like this store did in the past.
Ordered fish and chips that I use to always order from the previous owner. I expected the quality to be the same or at least better because the price of everything went up.
Got served chips that were almost half the portion size of what I use to receive and looked like they were cooked in weeks old oil. They were all way overcooked and burnt, tasted awful.
This use to be my go to place to order freshly cooked golden chips/wedges that were a very generous portion size and now I wont be returning. Really disappointed…
Really wish I took a photo of what they looked like made from the other owner to compare. Wildly different.
The new owners are very welcoming, absolutely delicious fish and chips.
Not greasy not salty which was fantastic.
Value for money and lots of leftovers

Good food and service, but it is a little bit price. The place is clean on the customer area.. They were adding better tables and sit when, but I haven’t been there since.
We were hesitant to give this place a go due to the reviews but we wanted to see for ourselves and we’re glad we did. The serving was generous, chips were perfectly salted and flake was fresh and beautifully battered and came with lemon wedges and tartare sauce on the side. The potato cakes were the only thing that could improve as the batter seemed stale, maybe from old oil? Despite that, the owners were lovely and welcoming, we sat down and ate and the music was lovely. I hope everyone gives them a go!
I ordered the snack pack for two from Mosaic Fish and Chips via ubereats, which includes two flake fish, chips, dim sims, and a potato cake for $27.79. In my special instructions, I asked if the flake could be substituted with a different type of fish (whiting) for dietary reasons and if the dim sims could be replaced with another similarly priced option. I clearly stated that if this was not possible, the order should be cancelled!
Instead, without asking for my approval i was charged by the restaurant an extra $4 charge for these special instructions. Had I been informed of this, I would have cancelled. The charge makes no sense, especially since the substitutions I requested were cheaper than the original items (for example on uber eats, the flake is $14.50, while whiting is $12.70).
It feels like my reasonable request was used as an opportunity to add an unjustified fee. The fish and chips was actually quite decent, which is the only reason this isn’t a one-star review. That said, the overall experience was disappointing enough that I won’t be ordering again, whether online or in person.
We ordered some fish because we really enjoyed our first visit here thinking the fish was fresh and the batter was just right till I ate half of my fish to realise the dough was literally stuffed in my mouth. I am so disappointed – this has never happened to me in any other store ever. Please double check your food is cooked because it doesn’t seem they know either.
